I'm so glad she's feeling better - that's what counts the most! Hopefully the numbers and eating more on her own will quickly follow.

I noticed you started a new pen on 2/14. Was that pen from the same batch as the old pen? It just seems that her numbers started rising despite the increases right after you started a new pen...I'm wondering if maybe that pen was bad, too? It's pretty rare for that to happen, but it's not unheard of.

Yes the pen was from the same batch, I did start another pen from a different batch on 3/13, but it seems to me all this started with the pen that had floaties in it, then I followed that with a pen from the same batch. I did change to the completely new pen, so I guess that would have corrected it, however that is one reason I have wondered if I might be shooting too high of a dose, since I may have been increasing the dose with bad insulin, so when I started good insulin, I was shooting a higher dose. Does that make sense?!

I am upset about these numbers. Maybe I should have taken her to the vet today. I thought with the +3 at 303 she was okay, but +5 338, I don't know. I just don't know what I'm doing and now it is the weekend.

Can you call your vet? The higher numbers could be from the furshot.

I can call but I won't hear back now until he leaves, I can see if they can still get me in. I just don't know what would be done if I took her in. I can't afford to have blood work done again, maybe more antibiotic. I don't know what to do!!!

Do you live close enough that you can just go in the office and speak to the vet if they wont call you back quickly? I do that sometimes on Saturday mornings. Will they not let you make a payment in an emergency situation?

I don't have a car, round trip taxi is $43. They no longer accept payments. It's a real problem.
I just called and the receptionist is going to talk to the vet and she said one of them would call me back. The vet is there tomorrow morning and she scheduled me for 11:30 in case I need to go in. I know the vet will say to bring her in, but you know, as I said I don't know what he would do but more antibiotics, which I don't want her to have unless she truly needs them.

Maybe they will call you back and give you some suggestions that are inexpensive. At least the receptionist sounds like she understands and will try hard to have the vet call you back. Have you tried the DCIN group for assistance or care credit? I wish that I had some better suggestions for you.

The receptionist did sound concerned. I can contact DCIN.

If you did do a fur shot the last night, her numbers today would reflect that today for sure. Yesterday AM cycle she was coming down into the yellows. Is she eating? Pooping?

I'm hoping this is just from the furshot. It is so concerning to see her going higher.
She is eating some on her own, I'm force feeding but she is not objecting. She hasn't pooped since yesterday evening, that poop was very soft.

Well, it does sound like something is going on for her not to be eating well and soft poop. Does she have IBD?

Just had a soft poop, zoomed around stopping to have a go at her scratching post!
Yes the vet suspects IBD. Discussed treating her "as if". I wanted to wait until her bg came back down before starting her on the steroid because I thought it might bring the bg up higher, but now am thinking maybe we should go ahead and start it as the IBD could be at least contributing to her higher numbers.

I know nothing about IBD, but hope that it goes into remission soon!

It's so hard to know what's behind the higher numbers.

Are you planning to try a new pen? I think that would be something I would want to try, just in case. If it's not he insulin, then you would at least have ruled out the possibility that the insulin was bad.

Hang in there, Julie. You're being a detective right now, and it takes time to tease apart the problem and figure out what might be behind her higher numbers. You'll get to the bottom of it though.

I didn't mean to disappear. The vets office called 6 hours later. Said to bring her in tomorrow at 11:30. Eleanor is acting normal tonight, if she is okay in the morning, I'm going to wait. Her vet is the only doctor there, he is booked solid, her appointment is at the end of the schedule. I know from past experience it will be very noisy and chaotic and not the best time to try to get into an in depth conversation with the vet.

I changed to a pen from a different batch on 3/13.

I don't know what to think!!

I was up early this morning, with a couple hours sleep. I'm trying to figure out a way to get my cooler started up, a guy was supposed to be here at 8:30 am to look at it, no show. Finally reached him by phone, he said he would be here sometime today. Never showed.
Anyway, I have been napping in between checks, since pm insulin, enjoying the yellow and Eleanor purring beside me. That's why I didn't get back with an update! I'm exhausted.

I hope you can rest tonight. Tomorrow is a new day.

Hoping the yellow continues!
I'm trying so hard to figure out what caused Eleanor's bg to go up, I think maybe a combination of the URI, weak insulin and me not working harder to bring her numbers down as soon as they started up. But I am so tired, I don't know if my thought processes are off.

Personally I would not consider a steroid anytime soon especially if treating "as if". Just my opinion.
Maybe start by asking about B12 and metronidazole and see if that helps. It is a conservative treatment for IBD
Totally agree with Marje on this.
