Hi Julie,
I am so sorry about Punkin. My heart goes out to you.

That's so kind of you - thank you! The little guy is imprinted on my heart forever - and in that way, will never leave me.

Remind me - she doesn't eat dry food, right? You chose SLGS just because of personal preference?

If I'm right on those, you could use the Tight Reg guidelines and increase her dose after 6 cycles. Because she's on 4u, and stuck in high numbers, I would consider a 0.5u increment for increasing, even though she's had lows in the mid-200's.

With a 1u dose - typical diabetic cat - a 0.25u increase is a 25% increase. With 4u, a 0.25u increase is a 6% increase. A 0.5u increase is a 12% increase. When kitties move into higher doses, we often look to the percentage increase for help on how much to increase. Since she's been stuck in higher numbers, IF YOU WANT TO, you could increase by that larger amount. Your choice - I just wanted to mention the option.

Thank you Julie. She eats only Fancy Feast Classic Turkey and Giblets or Chicken.
Yes personal preference with SLGS, although I am now increasing every 6 cycles.
I think I should get the courage to increase by 0.5. I am still mentally stuck in her old pattern of out of nowhere dropping really low (30-). But I don't think she is going to do that now. But I don't know, this is just so weird to me.

Cat's patterns can and do change, unfortunately. It truly is a Sugar Dance and they are in the lead. It's up to us to follow their lead.

But . . . if it's too uncomfortable for you, be more conservative. It's ok to trust your gut and go with your instinct and what you know about her.

Not even a month old - i doubt it's a problem with the pen.

You could consider switching to Levemir when you run out of insulin. I wouldn't change when you still have a lot left, but it's not uncommon for cats to respond well to Lev. As cats get into higher doses almost everyone switches to Lev. We didn't, but most do now.
