Newly diagnosed with diabetes

Hello my name is Debbie and my kitty Fritz is almost 9 years old.
Feb 11th a vet put him on Lantus 2 units his gbs were remaining high so she uped the units to 3 after two more weeks she had me do a curve was amps 296 + 2 298 + 4 302 + 8 362 10 371 +12 375 +14 368.
Today on Prozinc amps 254 +2 246 +4 299.
I'm doing the Elizabeth Hodgkins sliding scale.
I need to mention I'm tapering Fritz off Predisolone he has asthma and the same day he started Prozinc I had to start him on the Predisolone. I've tapered him down to 1ml every other day hoping that will help lower his gbs.
He us a big cat weighing in at 26 pounds down from 28.
I make my own cat food with air chilled organic antibotic free chicken.
He also gets a small amount if Fancy Feast classic chicken tk make sure he gets,a small amount of carbs.
I'm frustrated as the two different vets he's been two have differing treatments to treat hus diabetes both whuch appear to have limited knowledge on hiw to treat him.
I don't know what hus right or wrong at thus point in the treatment.
I need help!
I travel a lot and can't be at one vet. I will be in Washington state all summer, so if someone knows of a good diabetic vet please let me know.
Today I am doing a curve si far amps was 254. +2 246. +4 299 +6 376 help!
 
Hi Debbie, welcome to you and Fritz. I understand your frustration with the vets- many of us share that feeling! It sounds like you have the diet portion under control, now you just need some help to get the insulin dosage straightened out. @Sue and Oliver (GA) is one of our resident ProZinc gurus and will be glad to help you figure Fritz out. You are correct that getting Fritz off the steroid should help lower his BG, but if he needs it, then you increase the insulin to counter the steroid. How long has Fritz been on ProZinc, and what is the dosage?

On the 26th I started the sliding scale am 1.5 units bg 186 6 hours later 4 units bg 360 then 6 hours later 3 units bg 259 then 6 hours later 2 units bg219
27th 7 5 hours later 3.5 units bg 298
9.5 hours later 4 units bg374
6 hours later 4 units bg 379
28th 6.5 hours later 3.5 units bg 317
6.o hours later 341 6.o hours later bg343
6 hours later 3.5 units bg329
29th 7.0 hours 2.5 units bg 244
9.5 hours 3 units 282
8.0 hours 4 units bg354

What do I do next I'm afraid to keep this Roller coaster dosing. Do I dose twice a day or keep up with the scale?
