Chopper has thrown up 3 times this morning. Usually he only does this is he's gone a few hours without eating. He has eaten, he has water out. The first vomit looked like food. Then mucousy yellow nasty looking. What's going on here? Three times is excessive and I'm afraid he's going to start vomiting blood again. What can I give him to stop this? Someone help me please.

Do you have some Pepcid AC? (famotidine) 10mg? You might try giving him 1/4 tablet to help settle his stomach

If you give him a small amount of food, is he able to keep it down now?

That was what happened when i rushed my cat to the vet and they diagnosed an infection with diabetes. did you test his glucose? do you have pepto or imodium you could try a little of that.

He doesn't want any food??? Weird he always wants food.... I didn't check his glucose but I do have some pepto. How much should I give him? Going to test him right now.

Okay trying pepto now. He didn't even fight when I tested him. Usual I have to gently restrain him. I think he's just really not feeling well today. This happened before in December then he started vomiting blood. I had to rush him to the vet for fluids and thankfully he was fine after.

I did have the feral orphan.... Who is now passed away. So its possible he passed something to my chopper but I doubt it because they had no contact.

how long ago did you have the feral orphan? i would be concerned but watch him for awhile if he seems like hes getting worse and not feeling better then i would call the vet

The orphan died... Maybe a little over a week ago, with so much going on I've lost track of the day.

I'm watching him closely. There is absolutely no way I can take him to the vet today. I really hope he's okay. I'm really starting to regret my choice of adopting a senior cat. I love him so much but I wish I could do more for him.

did you adopt him from a shelter, organization type place? because if you signed paperwork they may take him back if you can't care for him. something to think about

I recommend a vet visit. Smokey had the same symptoms. Turned out to be pancreatitis. Something we've never dealt with.

I did get him from a shelter. Worse case I would rather give him to someone with experience dealing with feline diabetes. I really don't want to give him up if there's any chance he can live a good life here with his family. The stress of that can make things harder for him. I'm praying these times will pass and he will get better. I have another cat too with absolutely no health issues (knock on wood) and I adopted them at the same time. I can't imagine not having Chopper. This is all crazy.

My little guy seems to be feeling much better. I caught him hacking up Easter grass and looked through the garbage bin and mushed up the vomit that looked like food to find strands of easter grass in it. So I threw all of the easter grass away. And Im thanking God he has kept FF down so far and he's moving around normally. Hoping this is all it is. Please keep my baby in your thoughts!

Try not to lose heart; we can all very much relate to how overwhelmed you're feeling at the moment because we all arrive here feeling pretty much the same way and it is quite a steep learning curve in the early days. You're not alone with this, OK? We'll do all we can to help and support you as you learn and get the right treatments in place to help Chopper feel better. We all hate seeing anything wrong with our little ones and we want them to be better straight away but it can take a little bit of time for them to benefit from the treatments we give them. My Saoirse had a really bad pancreatitis flare not long after she was diagnosed. I won't pretend it wasn't tough going for a while but, thanks to the experiences shared with me by members here, I found out about treatments that could really help her and within a couple of months she went from looking really rough to looking just like the picture in her profile (see link in my signature). Our main vet was genuinely amazed at the transformation in her.

I know it's a bit late for today but I'd not give Pepto-bismol to a cat (salicylates). By all means get ideas here for treatments but always check with your vet first before giving any suggested treatments to your animals.

When we arrived here most - if not all - of us knew diddly squat about how to care for a diabetic kitty but we learned. You will too, and as your knowledge grows so, too, will your confidence in your ability to properly care for Chopper. Hang in there: things will get better. :)

Mogs, I truly thank you. You're always here to offer kind words. Members like you have given me trust in this forum and I feel truly welcomed and safe here. I appreciate all of your kind words. I do feel helpless and incompetent. I'm doubting myself a bit. Should I have left him in the 2x1 glass cage where I found him? I mean, who in the world would adopt a 6 year old long hair, BLACK cat, whose been declawed and surrendered to a kill shelter with very little bio info given? I adopted Chopper to save his life. I had no idea what lengths it would bring me to... How far I would go for him... Where his love would push me... I ALWAYS said whoever was lucky enough to be owned by Chopper before me must've really hurt to give him up. He is a great spirit. Truly. And it must've been someone in my situation who knew he was sick but couldn't by any means care for him. So they decided to give him up hoping that someone more fortunate could feel his love and all he has to offer. He is amazing and I will move oceans for him. If the good Lord has it in His will. Thanks. He's going to be OK. And I feel confident knowing that I have the support of people like you.

I did give Chopper pepto today. He shook and most of it landed on my jeans. But I'm feeling supper shitty for even trying.
Don't be so hard on yourself. :bighug: I've given Saoirse meds prescribed by the vet where the side effects scared the living howsyerfather out of me (her reaction to mirtazapine was not pretty to see, for example). We're still here, thank heavens! :)

PS: I now always do a web search on any new med prescribed for Saoirse, or any med or supplement that I think might help her. I also check for drug/supplement interactions and I always discuss treatments with the vet before administering them. It helps minimise any risks.

Great idea. So far, chopper is doing great and he's back to eating FF like its going out of style. Tomorrow is a new day! My baby will make it through with Gods grace and the love of his family. Super prayers tonight! :-)
