I hope Shoes slides down for you today.
Thank you Carla. He still is having some GI issues as he had some diarrhea last night and then pooped up everything that he ate last night sometime this am. But it was solid at least. Going to pick up something this am at the vets.

ordanestrom works really well for nausea.... we use that and cerenia when needed.
I use the cerenia when there is vomit and nausea-
just the ord. 2x a day with Rico as he has CKD for many years and has nausea pretty regularly.

FYI if you get injectable cerenia it stings.... I give it right after I give fluids and use a frozen needle to lessen the sting-(injectable is $$$)
they have it in pills too but the shot works faster. The fluids do not seem to affect how quickly it works.
good luck!

Well, there is no vomiting going on so that's good. Will ask for the ordanestrom I think.

ECID in what works best for them. Trix seems to get a better response from Cerenia but many here do so well with Ondansetron (Zofran). And, if necessary, the two can actually be used together. Like Jayla's Rico, Trix has advanced CKD so I give her 4mg cerenia every day to stay ahead of the nausea. I use the tablets the bulk of the time, but when she's had bad pancreatitis flares and vomiting up the meds was a concern, I've used the injection. As Jayla mentioned, though, the injection both stings and is very pricey - from our vet, one injection is something like $42. I get the tablets online from ValleyVetSupply.com. If I remember correctly, they are 10.95 for four 16mg tablets (so each tablet is actually 4 doses) - this is the cheapest source I have found so far.

Amy.... Just FYI a bottle of cerenia injectable is about 150$ and you will get probably 20? shots out of it (Rico gets 1/2 cc) If you use it enough it may be worth getting the bottle-I keep in the fridge and my vet said it stays good a long time-:bighug:

Good to know! I haven't had to use injectable cerenia in over a year....anti-jinx. When Trix had her biggest p-titis flare a couple years ago, I got a vial of injectable Ondansetron, and it was only $10.99....talk about a shock! I couldn't believe a medication could be so cheap. The same pharmacy charged me $7 per pill of the same drug.

Whoaaaa... I need to look into the injectable ord-- I have been using mine and it is like 5$ for 15-- I had my vet call in for #50 it was almost 200$
Talk about shock!
I got a refill on mine:rolleyes:
Have a good day Amy :bighug:

For bowls you may want to try Slipper Elm Bark in his food twice a day. You can get it at any health food store. Ok Shoes, time to work the juice a little so come on down please.

Before you get meds, how long has the nausea been an issue and has Shoes seen the vet. Both Cerenia and ondansatron are prescription medications. I'm not a big fan of treating symptoms unless you know the cause. There may be other options (e.g, if it's an upset tummy, Pepsid may be just fine).

Cerenia is very expensive whether it's pill or injection. Not all cats do well on it. Ondansatron is more expensive in pill form than when it's prescribed as an injection. If a kitty is vomiting, the injectable form of either drug is preferred since a pill can be vomited back up.

Ondansetron has worked well for Max since chronic pancreatitis started too many years ago. It is not expensive, less than $1.00 per pill, especially if yiunbuy 60-90 at a time. I get it at Costco and have also purchased from Healthwarehouse.com and Thrivingpets.com. Use the good RX card or site to check current prices. I hate injectable because they sting. I put oilks in a gelcap and chase with tasty Gerbers baby food or syringe a little water if he won't eat. I have to disagree with Sienne in this one.

Have some blue finally! +4 is 195! Vet gave me sucralfate tabs for the diarrhea & tummy with instructions to crush and put in his vasoline that he licks off his paw for hairballs. They have no taste, I checked. So I did that and he has licked it off. Also, he gave me a syringe of Centrine with 1 dose in it to use if Shoes starts vomiting.

Sienne, he was just at the vet's 5 days ago and was just fine. He has had some mucousy stools since Sat. on and off and last night had the diarrhea. He has not vomited but acted like he did not feel well at all. I gave him 1 tsp pumpkin last night and that helped some with what he did overnight for BM. He pooped up everything that he had eaten and it was more of a soft stool with a little mucous, no blood but some hairs. He acts quite a bit better this am but not exactly back to normal.
Thanks!

And PS - I think that I contributed to the GI upset Sunday night as I did give him about 1/2 tsp of yogurt with active bacteria as I thought it might help his intestinal tract. It had milk in it and I think this contributed.

Vet gave me sucralfate tabs

Interesting. Doodles was on sucralfate liquid that had to be syringed for his throat/tummy ulcers. I'm new to so many meds that I don't have any advise but agree not to treat unless you know why. Look up Sucralfate....basically Slippery Elm Bark accomplishes the same thing.

Thanks Karen. I do trust my vet for this. I don't have any of the slippery elm bark and wouldn't know how to dose it anyway.
