Doodles 3/18 Doodles enjoyed some bird and bunny watching late afternoon/ early evening. We have bunnies that run around like crazy in the yard. Of course I feed them and the birds for cat TV.

Hoping not to see any red or black today, that was a bit rough yesterday. I picked up the metoclopramide in injectable form but have not given it to him. The needles are huge and it says to give "under the skin". I'm assuming this means you don't place the needle as deep or on an angle? We're already upto 4 shots a day and this would make 6:( I may wait until Monday and have them call to get it compounded. He is eating and at this point I might be acting overly paranoid about the amount :nailbiting:

Lots of vines and prayers to all the kitties!

Karen if your uncomfortable with the needle you can call the office and ask for a smaller one... I use a 25 gauge X 5/8 for injections.... It is a red needle. I think the vets are always looking for the fastest way but in my experience with my boys they would rather in be a little poke and go in slow.
Just my opinion:bighug:

again--just how we do it--a slight angle and bevel up.... just under skin not too deep (usually pull up scruff ) unless vet says otherwise? :bighug:

Happy to hear that Doodles is eating and enjoying bird/bunny tv! My boys love watching the birds and the squirrels!
Hopefully Doodles numbers come down a bit today.

Glad to hear that he came out from under the bed and is enjoying the life performance outside. Fingers crossed for some better numbers today!

Vines and prayers that Doodles is starting to feel better. Were you given the metoclopramide for motility issues? If for nausea it doesn't work much for cats as they don't have the receptors for it.

I just went back and read yesterday's condo. Marje is right as I started to mention about metoclopramide. I was given it for my lymphoma kitty. It did nothing. I wonder if this vet works more with dogs? It works for them. Ondansetron is a miracle drug for Max. Cerenia is also good but the shots sting. The pills work but you often need a higher dose as they aren't absorbed as well but they do work. I'd only use the shots if he were vomiting due to the sting.

Well, looks like FF is not a good option as they are all over .5% Tiki & Ziwi are very low in sodium.

Sodium restriction guidelines:
  • No signs of heart disease, mild restriction: <100 mg/100kcal or 0.35?0.50% DM
  • Early heart failure, moderate restriction: <80 mg/100 kcal or 0.1-0.35% DM
  • Advanced heart failure, severe restriction: <50 mg/100 kcal or <0.10% DM
  • Note: high sodium diets or treats are those than contain >0.50% DM

They also make Cats in the Kitchen. I just bought a can of moist and tender chicken and one of turkey. Max liked the chicken which is a little higher in carbs but not too bad. He hasn't tried the turkey yet. On a dry matter basis the sodium looks pretty good.

After more digging I found drug interaction info on both Lasix and Enalapril. Appears that Lasix can raise BG's and Enalapril can lower BG's when using with Lantus and other insulin. So we have a tug-of-war going on.....

Goodness Karen, Doodle's treatment looks complicated to my little brain, but it looks like you're doing a fine job of juggling everything :bighug:

Just to add to this--
we give cerenia often to Rico...
I keep it in the refrigerator and freeze the needle and I always give it right after fluids. I actually insert the needle in the fluid "bubble" and he has no reaction and no longer vomits. Before I knew about the sting-OMG you would have thought I injected him with fire! (he is a bit dramatic these days)

Happy to hear Doodles is eating well! Doodles' treatments look very complicated to me but I'm sure you've got it under control!

Waiting for his bloodwork results...hopefully Monday. The Acro & IAA tests won't be until late next week or the week after. Then I need to decide what to do with his dose. Thinking about R instead of raising Lantus because of the depot. One thing at a time and good news is I haven't cried today:p

Lots of people do use anzemet. I always forget tee name and didn't have time to look it up earlier. It works well I've been told.

Anzemet is also called dolastron. I've never used it but wouldn't hesitate if it worked for him in the past.

I'm so glad he had a good day today. I know it's so hard to find the perfect foods.

Hoping tomorrow will be a better day.

I hope the Acro/IAA tests come back negative for Doodles. I'm a big fan of R insulin and it's been a great help to Crystal, plenty of experienced people here to help guide you if you decide on that route in the future.
Hang in there Karen :bighug:
