Doodles HCM Diagnosis Doodles was roaming around the house being a happy boy despite being at the vet for 8 hours yesterday. This morning he seems to be doing the same, ate pretty good, and did his usual lazy play basically watching me play with the mouse on a stick and swatting a few times. Now it's btb for his morning nap.

Dosing advise for PMPS please - The new IM vet is good. I was a little worried in the beginning when we reviewed his SS and she did not like the greens. She said "too low"...I said "not it's not" lol. She was quick to say "ok, lets agree to disagree" and moved onto the issue at hand. I do respect that. So last night I gave a reduced dose of 3units because I didn't test and was just exhausted. Poor choice but we'll live with it. Do we go to 5 units or hold the 4.5 units for a few more cycles now that we started the HCM meds?

My gut feels better than it's has in over a month....crazy. At least part of the mystery cat has been resolved. All the support here in L&LL is truly overwhelming and much appreciated.

OK, off to check on the kitties and hope everyone is doing well.

I'm glad Doodles is feeling good. I'm not sure about the dose, but whatever you decide his depot will have to refill from the reduced shot. Sending prayers. :bighug:

I'm happy Doodles is feeling good today!
The HCM meds.....do you have any idea as to how long Doodles has to be taking them before they may actually affect his BG?

I don't but will follow up. I did ask about what to do with his dose and she said to start reducing it now. He belief is that his numbers will start dropping. My response was...hmm, OK well I'll be here to catch him.

ok well that sounds positive and, if that's the case, I definitely wouldn't increase him. I'm not sure I would decrease him either until he does show some signs of coming down and you test frequently so you will catch it when it happens. Just my opinion :)

:bighug::bighug::bighug: Knowledge is power. I'm so sorry I'm late to read this but I've not been on much. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts as I continue to do for you and Doodles. I hope you find the right combination of meds quickly. He has a great bean and it sounds like good vets to guide you. Oh, except for the BG part. You have this board for that.

OMG, I'm such an A** for giving that reduced shot last night :arghh::arghh:
NO - you are NOT!! It was a crazy day and you did what you thought was best at the time. There is no way to predict what may or may not happen 12 or so hours later, and Doodles will be fine!! Remember - he is being a happy boy, and that is what's most important. The juice will balance out.

Has he started the new meds yet?

Has he started the new meds yet
We started the Furosemide last night. He gets 10 units at night and 20 units in the morning. So far it doesn't seem to bother him at all! Waiting for the compound pharmacy to call for the Enalapril.

Now I have too find foods low in sodium:confused: Anyone know the range for "low sodium"? I found this chart that does list the sodium and carb count. http://www.felinecrf.org/canned_food_usa.htm

No your not. I did the same thing with Smokey day of his ultrasound. Wanted him safe not take chances because of fasting. You did the same. Can't change it no sense worrying it's only 1 number in the grand scheme of things. He will be down soon enough. :bighug::bighug::bighug: and get well wishes sent to you and Doodles.

I hope the meds start to work their magic.

Don't beat yourself up about the reduced shot, it will all pan out in the end:bighug::bighug:

Your description of Doodles playing is much like George:rolleyes:
Lol, I get more exercise than him at times:)

We all do so much for our babies and sacrifice our sleep and even our health more than we should....I know I did. But we all need to take a break when we need it. One cycle is not the end of the world. It really isn’t. You absolutely must take care of yourself so you can care for him. It was a long day for you both and I think it was an extremely wise choice to shoot a reduced dose last night.

I’d start the cycle count over so I’d leave the dose at 4.5u and then see where he is after six cycles unless he drops suddenly. Had to correct that because I see he is still getting a bit of dry. Sorry.

Read the assessment report. He is at the early stage of congestive heart failure. Taking it one day at a time.
You might want to contact @Libby and Lucy as she has experience with CHF.

Since none of us have a crystal ball, we all make the choice that is best based on the information we have at that time. Reducing was a wise thing to do last night - you wanted to keep your boy safe and there was no way of knowing if he was going to drop after the first dose of the new meds. Clearly, that's not what happened - but he is safe, happy and it really is just one cycle.

Sending lots of hugs and good thoughts your way!

So FF isn't too bad in sodium with a respectable carb count. There are just a few new ones on my list to try. Yesterday while he was getting tests done I picked up Tiki Sardine Cutlets. He seemed to like it, lowest in sodium and carbs too. Just can't feed him that all the time because of the fish.

I'm just catching up on your news. At least you have an answer to the Doodles mystery. Don't worry about last night's shot. Big picture, he's feeling good today. :bighug::bighug::bighug: BTW, my Marshmallow used to play like Doodles too. I definitely got more exercise playing with her mousies than she did. ;)

heart issues and insulin resistance
Thanks Wendy. I have the Kirk's Veterinary Therapy book and it goes pretty far into heart disease and it causing insulin resistance. He was pretty good this morning but not so much this afternoon which has been the pattern. We start the Enalapril tonight.

He ate the Enalapril compounded into a chewy chicken treat!! A bit relieved. Now hopefully the depot will fill and we can at least get back to yellow. Oh my did I just wish for yellow??o_O

Sending tons of vines that Doodles gets back into good numbers soon. Try not to be so hard on your self. We can only do so much.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

You absolutely made the right choice last night. What if you had given the full dose and gone to bed, and he had a hypo? You would be a lot more upset with yourself! No more self-recriminations. You are a wise and loving bean and Doodles is lucky to have you.

I know what you mean about wishing for yellow. Cinco had so much pink, and even some - gasp! - black on his SS while he was boarding, that I was tickled to get yellow when he came home! That feeling has already worn off, though, and I'm more than ready for some blues and greens!

Sending tons more healing vines and :bighug:s.
