Doodles 3/1 Slightly had my hopes up for a better AMPS with the 241 @ +8 last night. We did have a short game of chase around +5 last night! I was worried about him because he was soo sleepy yesterday and I basically woke him up every few hours to eat something. He was eating just not big enough portions for his regular schedule. No poop yesterday either so hopefully we'll see some today. This morning he did good with his breakfast.

It's hard for me to keep him at this dose but will give it a full 5 days from the Covenia shot to see if there is any movement. The new vet wants me to hold the dose for the full 14 days but not sure I can last that long. Any opinions on this? I'm also going to call a few pharmacy's today and see if they will sell me 1 Lantus Pen.

Based on my own experience with having cats on antibiotics, it seemed to make them feel better within a few hours. But I doubt it would affect BGs that quickly however 14 days seems a little excessive? I would definitely give it the full 5 days but curious as to what others say.

I think 5 days sounds like plenty of time to give the Convenia shot a chance to make a difference. I would have a hard time waiting for the full two weeks if his numbers are not trending downward.

...and I know what you mean about waking your cat up to make them eat. I think my cats are all a bit annoyed with me setting alarms throughout the night to make sure that my boys eat. Capone, my big Civvie, barely opens his eyes and refuses to leave the bed... and he generally LOVES food.

She said I should see results in his BG around the 7 day mark. A few times yesterday he seemed real good, on is toes, tail in the air etc. but then would need another nap. Lethargy is one of the side effects to appears it should get better after a few days. Today will be the 48 hour mark since his shot.

Fingers and Paws crossed that you see movement ( LB and numbers ) today. As far as the one Lantus pen, Walmart will sell one Solo Star Pen for 86 bucks. You could request the remainder of your prescription to be transferred to Walmart.

Well 7 days isn't much longer than the 5 that you're planning to hold it for. Back last August when Boomer came out of remission he was running a slight fever so we started him on antibiotics and if you look at his spreadsheet it did take about a week for his levels to start coming down but then we were also increasing his insulin every 3 days. I would try to wait a week.
It's also my understanding that activity will lower BG and if he is lethargic because of the AB that's not going to help things along. But the lethargy may only last a couple of days hopefully.

I only have a script for the Vile so the new vet will have to give me one for the pens. Don't think it'll be an issue and if it is I'll make a big stink about it:smuggrin:
If you're going to try a new insulin vial (or pen) I would be tempted to do it immediately.....if you wait and Doodle's BG does go down then you won't know whether it was the insulin or whether it's lower because of the antibiotics.

I think that's why she wants me to wait at least 7 days so we can try to eliminate one variable at a time.

I agree with that too. Looks like I have to continue wearing patient pants....:arghh:

I agree with not holding out for a full 14 days - that's a long time! But, as you've said, I'd also give the AB enough time before switching to new juice, too, so you do know what's doing what.

Doodles really IS a Master Flat Cat....I honestly don't remember anyone one in L&LL like him!! Sending along some Poop Vines and some "Move Down, BG, DOWN!!" vines, too!!

The studies for convenia say it stays in the system "up to" 14 days--
In my experience we saw results before 5 days.... sometimes right away sometimes 3-5 days-
hugs:bighug:
playing is a good sign!!

Sending vines and prayers for Doodles. I totally understand your frustration as I have experienced extremes of the sugar dance. Gus was very close to remission on drop of insulin or no shoot and suddenly in July started to show insulin resistance until 1/14/16/started to show blue/breen # and for no reason went up and now showing blue/green. U/s, lab work new vet and consult with IM and no firm reason why no able to regulate BG.

I really hope that Doodles shows improvement soon.

DoodleZZZZZZZ!!!
We are waiting for some good news--ok no dropping off the cliff like "you know who" but a nice steady climb down the stairs would make your mommy so happy!!
