Sending lots of good thought. Have you heard from @Marje and Gracie ? If not, she's really good with kidney values.

You might want to see if you can get an SDMA value. It's a new test that's part of IDEXX's routine lab panel that is a test for renal function. Did the vet do a urinalysis?

Thanks but my vet uses IDEXX. the soma shows early kidney disease and Max is way beyond that. We didn't repeat the urinalysis this time but will next week. He had his last one a month ago and we ran a culture that turned but nothing.

II AM NOW CONCERNED THAT THE FRISKIES SD might be the culprit should there turn out to be a stone. Anyone still using it I would check with your vet about its use. My vet didn't mention the stone part when I brought it up before all this but did say it could cause liver issues in cats. I gave Max more than ever prior to the end of January test to try to get his numbers down. Just a reminder that if you are using any "special" food check with your vets before continuing. They can cause problems that you haven't even considered.

Good question, Amy. He's eating but getting ondansetron. I was going to stop it and see if he still eats but I'm afraid. He's been hanging out under the bed more.
 
I'm still feeding Friskies SD, in rotation with other foods, and so far no issues for my boys, but thanks for the heads up. As there is a finite supply, I don't think it'll be a concern much longer. Too bad, as Harvey will usually eat it, and he's getting pickier these days. :rolleyes:

I'm glad Max is eating, even if the Ondansetron is needed to make that happen. Sending vines and prayers for him.

How is your DM doing? Vines and prayers for her, too. :bighug:

This is just my opinion, but if ondansetron helps him eat, then so be it. Trix has been on Pepcid twice a day for 2 years now, and I've slowly inched up her cerenia from every other day to every 36 hours to every day (because she was starting to have more frequent empty tummy spit ups before breakfast in the morning...she was having them a couple times a week) - also started 2 years ago. I tried a few times to wean her off the meds, and she always backslid. It's not an ideal situation for a "healthy" cat, but it keeps her tummy settled and as a result she eats well. And honestly, I think keeping her eating well is why she has managed to have a great QOL despite having poorly functioning kidneys. So don't worry so much about him needing a med...if it helps him, then that's a good thing.

Trix never liked SD, but I do vaguely remember some sort of "cautions" about it...I just can't remember specifically what they were.
