With Max having a creatinine over 4.2 I am starting to wonder about kidney RX food. If he wasn't diabetic I probably would try it. He's so well controlled yet getting a fat 2.0 lantus dose. He is also so carb sensitive. I go back for a recheck next week and think my vet might want to try it. I think he would need higher doses of insulin. Thoughts?

I'm not quite sure what to recommend...but last test for Trix (which was almost a year ago), her creatinine was 5.0 (4.0 is the lowest she's ever been in the last 2 years), and she's still eating Fancy Feast and Purina One. I think it's another one of those ECID things, so it is hard to say. But also with Trix, I am trying to keep her OTJ so I don't have to toss insulin into the mix. With Max still being on insulin, you can always adjust his dose around the food.

Sorry...I know that probably wasn't much help!!

Thanks Amy. Actually with further thinking I've got him grain free which seems to help so I think I'm leaning to not giving RX.

As well controlled as Max has been lately, I'd hate to see you messing that up by feeding the RX foods, but I'm no expert in dealing with CDK either

Hope you can find something that works for Max's kidneys and doesn't fool with his BG numbers....I know from reading lots of other condo's that you're sure not alone in your search for a food that's good for both!

I've been thinking the same. I've got him on the lowest grain free low carb low phosphorus foods I can find. Hopefully that will help. Thanks Chris.

His BG control is excellent, Elise. I don't feel qualified to answer your question about the food, but just wanted to give you kudos on the BGs. You've done a fantastic job of managing it.

Thank you Julie and Bron. It sure is challenging! Every time I feel in control and I can relax a little we get thrown another curveball. Pancreatitis, FD, CKD. I sure hope nothing else tears it's ugly head.

I know what you mean! Punkin kept bringing forth new things, as though acro/FD wasn't bad enough, and I kept thinking the little guy simply couldn't catch a break.

Fortunately, Max is looking really good for the moment. Cherish it!
