Yes Dasher is out of remission, his BG at the vet was 326 and there is glucose in the urine. There are not any white blood cells in the urine so no infection. We discussed when I should start Lantus and he feels I should wait until I'm back from my trip. He feels Dasher will be fine and it's better to not treat him for three days and then stop as its too big of a shock to his system. He didn't think shooting without testing was a good idea especially given Dashers past , so hubby will do nothing.
He suprised me by saying he really thinks he will go back I to remission quickly .

I've finally had something to eat and feel a little calmer as I've been sick over this , not having to give shots again but worried about me not being here to start treatment. There was no way of cancelling this trip. I will pick up the script today and buy the Lantus that way I have it when I return .

He wants me to start off with 2u , I'm thinking that's a little too much? Thinking 1U ? He's 18 lbs , thoughts.

Sorry that Dasher is out of remission, but if your vet thinks there's a good chance he will resume remission, then that's certainly something positive to focus on. Dasher did it once, there's a very good chance he can do it again. I also agree with your vet's advice to wait and start insulin when you return from out of town and that you shouldn't give insulin without testing first. Your vet sounds like a very good choice for Dasher's care. Yep, I know what it feels like to be sick with concern over our diabetic kitties, so you're not alone with that feeling. So many of us here have experienced the same thing. Glad to know you've now calmed down a bit and have had a bite to eat... that always helps. Best wishes and hugs to you and Dasher.

I don't know anything about Lantus, but with ProZinc, it's wise to start out low and work into larger doses, if needed, and increases should be in .25 or .50 units, based on how low each dose takes the kitty and at what point in the cycle. Perhaps you could post this question over in the Lantus Forum and get more accurate information, there. It would also be helpful if you could set up a spreadsheet for Dasher so that experienced Lantus users can help you with dosing, should you need it. Instructions are here. Hope this helps.
