Doodles & Karen

Member Since 2015
Doodles has been on Lantus since July 2015. We made great progress until 10 days ago and he has become a complete mystery. We do have a vet visit on Tuesday to see if there is a medical issue that brought it on.

In the meantime, I would like to hear from some that use PZI and Vetsulin just to get a feel for your experience and hope to look at a few spreadsheets. It's my understanding that they are not depot insulin's and are dosed based on pre-shot. Doodles was on Vetsulin from May-July but we were not hometesting and had a near deadly hypo experience. The emergency vet put him on Lantus. Our regular vet does prefer Vetsulin and have a feeling she will suggest we switch again.

Hi Karen--we started on vetsulin and Dre was very depressed... he had big drops (bigger than now) and pooped up very quick--
Pro zinc-I was happy that it did not affect his personality. He was happy bright and "normal" the only problem was the duration. As you know Dre has a early nadir and it seems after 6 hours the pro zinc was done working--we were dosing aggressively/often to try to keep under the renal threshold.
I consult with Dr Ankone (took over Dr H practice) and she prefers lantus-we switched at that point.
If Dre turns out to be a long term diabetic we will probably consider lev as he sometimes feels the sting.
I have all 3 on my ss if you want to look them over...:cat:

Sometimes it seems like Doodles all of a sudden itches all over which I think is another side effect of Lantus...doesn't happen every day but it's strange to see. I did look at your SS, thank you. I'll run this vile out (3 months) and see what happens...maybe it is Lev next.

HM--that is strange--I wonder if others have that ??
I wish pro zinc lasted longer as it is closest to a cats biology... good luck :)

My experience is very limited but you are welcome to look at Radar's ss. You will need to look at page 2 because we are using Lantus now. We started out on Vetsulin last spring. The reason we didn't go back to it when Radar came out of remission in December was because of the extreme drops in BG which I think made him feel crummy. I hope you find some answers that will help your Doodles.
