Doodles 2/4 The house is pretty quiet this morning. Both cats are pretty much lounging around. Doodles is still loving his Stella & Chewys and happy he lets me add equal amounts of water and licks the bowl clean. Nothing else to report, just waiting to see how far up the dosing scale we go before he decides to come down.

Hope everyone has a good day and the kitties are feeling good.

Love when a kitty loves his or her fuds. Hopefully he'll hit that breakthrough dose soon. Enjoy the quiet, Karen!!

Ah Doodles what are you doing? Won't you work the dosecrease for your mama bean?
Karen....you must be super frustrated; I know I would be!
I'm wondering what the carb count is for the Stella & chewys?

That's awesome that you finally found a food that Doodles loves! I just picked up a bag of Stella & Chewy's too. Mandarin and Walter love their regular canned food, but one of my Civvies is starting to really get sick of the canned food diet. I hope that he will like this one since I definitely don't want to have any dry food out.

Enjoy the quiet morning, Karen, and I hope that Doodles will start to slide down.

carb count is for the Stella & chewys
1% rehydrated and less than 2% dry. Wendy & Amy mentioned they observed his numbers started to get wacky since I've been feeding it. With all his food issues, if he'll eat it and it's on the "approved" list we'll stick with it. DH is grumbling that his numbers when up after I stopped giving him YAZC. Between food and all the "heath check" suggestions the last few days I'm "checked" out on thinking.

Last night at PMPS I fed S&C only and he actually dropped at PM +4.5. At his last meal I gave FF & S&C and this morning he was up. So for breakfast I fed only S&C...will be interesting to see what he does in a few hours.

Well with that small a carb value it shouldn't be the culprit! This is the 3rd period on the dose increase and the dose is well past where he was getting good numbers just last month. Just my opinion but I wouldn't increase him any more until you rule out an infection. I know he has a vetty appt on Tuesday and it will take 2 or 3 days to run the culture I think. I'm still thinking the insulin may be bad....not sure how much a bottle of insulin costs there? Here in Canada it would be much cheaper to try a new bottle of insulin ($80) instead of visiting the vet which, with blood/urine work, would run about $300. But I know that's not the case in the US. Like I said, just my opinion!

Wow!
I don't know Karen; both are expensive options! And I'm certainly no expert!
Why don't you tag some of the experts and see what they think?

My original plan is to get to the vet on Tuesday to rule out infection and do another increase on Sunday to 2 units. If the vet checks out OK and his numbers aren't down by then I was going to buy a new vile. Another crazy thought to test the insulin is not give any for a few cycles and see what he does.

If you feel you want to test the insulin, could you reduce his dose rather than give none? It seems like a less drastic approach, perhaps.

There's no one near you who could let you draw a shot or two from a different vial, I take it?

I hope it works itself out soon.

My fear would be that, assuming he has an infection, the antibiotics will kick in and he'll go far too low because of the amount of insulin he is receiving. Same thing could happen with a new bottle of insulin. That is why I suggested that he not be increased further.

So on the bright side he is happy to eat...:bighug:
Sorry about the numbers... we are fighting them as well.
Hopefully he will settle into a nice range.... I am glad he is feeling good :cat:

Bite the bullet and bought a new vile for the lovely price of $269. Luckily DH spends money on BS regularly so there was no argument. Probably a long shot but we'll see. Only a short game of chase today otherwise the kitties are being pretty lazy.

Have you ever considered buying our insulin from Mark's Marine Pharmacy online? Considerably cheaper prices, though you have to wait for it to arrive.

I would, DH is nuts and doesn't trust it regardless of how many others use it. He loves the Doodles but is very very "hard headed".

Doodles, you've got us scratching our heads. Wouldn't it be better if we scratched you?

When Polly's been particularly frustrating with high numbers over a long stretch, I usually do the vetty exam. Last time we even did an ultrasound. Nothing showed up. And her numbers did fall back into a more comfortable range not long after.

Just vines.

What are you doing in the pinks, Doodles? That's really no place to be! I am frustrated with Walter's numbers too - but he was never even close to being regulated and his SS didn't even resemble Doodles's sea of blues and greens. I wish I had an answer for what might be going on... but, in the meantime, I am sending vines your way!

I've been studying his SS for the last 30 mins and cannot find an apparent reason for this sudden change. "Usually" with bad insulin, the numbers get a little wonky ..maybe come down a bit into blue and then to back up. There is such a line of demarcation on his SS...such a clear line...that it just makes me think his insulin needs have increased. In the past, when I've had this kind of situation, I just kept increasing per the protocol until we hit a breakthrough dose.

I understand how stressful this can be and it's so difficult to not bang your head against the dose and wonder why. Sometimes we just don't know the answer. But as I said before, not only have I noted that Gracie always had worse numbers in Jan/Feb/March but others have also noted that their kitties vary seasonally. I have no clue if that's Doodles' issue and it doesn't really matter. Just follow the TR protocol and try not to get discouraged. I am very hopeful that he quit bouncing once and he will do it again.

Hear that, Doodles?

Glad he is liking the Stella and Chewy's and hope you find the greens soon- <3 <3 <3
