Well, ITF won out and I pulled the trigger this morning and increase her dose back up to 1.75

I considered a F 1.5 but decided that I'd go ahead and do the .25 increase and then if she needs less, work on learning to be consistent with calipers to reduce back down a drop or two at a time

At this point, it's more of a "gut feeling" and knowing China as well as I do

Hopefully this will get her numbers back down into mostly greens and then we can work on holding reductions again

Probably need to get her in for another dental too...it's been a little over a year since her last one, but (once again) money is an issue....Last year's cost me about $750 which is more than I make in a month. If it weren't for some very wonderful friends who donated to fundraisers for China, I don't know how I'd ever have paid for the last 2, so I suppose as much as I hate doing it, I'll have to try again

I was hoping the vet that has done her last 2 dentals would offer a special deal for February since it's National Dental Month, but they said they don't:(

I've been fighting with myself over whether it's worth trying to find another vet that does offer a discount or sticking with the vet that's done the last 2 because at least I know she's done well

Anyway, wish us luck with the dosecrease and I hope all your kitties are feeling wonderful!!

Surprised that the vet does not offer a deal on dentals in Feb.:(

Yeah I was really disappointed!! A lot of vets do and I was hoping that THIS year, I might be able to take advantage of it instead of having to do "emergency" dentals like I have the last 2 times due to broken teeth

That's why I'm so torn about making a decision too...I can probably find another vet that's able to do a dental and does offer a discount, but our current vet knows China best

Chris, wishing you lots of luck with the dosecrease. What if you called you vet and say that you'd love to stay there but you need to go to another practice that will give you the discount for National Dental Month. Hopefully they will value you and want to keep you there. Good thing I am not a vet or I would not make any money with my soft heart! Where did you get your calipers? Are they hard to get use to? I think I need to get some for consistency.

Good luck with the dosecrease. I hope you can work something out for the dental. Too bad your vet doesn't offer a discount.

There's a great video that Marje did on Dosing with Calipers

They're not particularly hard to use....The part I had trouble with the first few times I tried them was I was still looking at "the lines" in the syringes....when you're dosing with calipers, you ignore the lines completely and just set the dose based on where the calipers land on the syringe

I usually put my used syringes into a sealed sharps container so didn't have any to "practice with" until I started saving them again this morning.

Ah thanks for that link!

Back in the saddle Miss China.

All sorts of vines that everything works out for your girl's dental. I'm beginning to think I'm lucky that Polly lost all of her teeth years ago.

good luck with the dose crease---if you trust the vet for the dental and they do a good job it may be worth paying it just for peace of mind… my 2 cents :)
