If i go away for 4 days is it ok to prefill my needles with lantus and leave in fridge for whoever gives shots to my kitty? HAs anyone tried this?

If you are concerned about your sitter not giving the right dose, you could prefill a syringe with coloured water at the right dose or mark enough syringes with tape so the sitter has a gauge to ensure correct dosing while you are away.

I'd be either negotiating/training the sitter or looking for a new one. While prefilling for a day or two might be OK, although not recommended, I'd be really concerned about prefilling for any longer trips.

I am working on that but I'm not sure if the new one will work out. I think the new one has likely made promises to me that she can't keep. Also I use Prozinc which does not degrade like Lantus. Personally I'm of the opinion that some effect is better than no effect and nothing is ever going to be perfect. However, I can do my best and ensure as good of quality of life as I can which is enough. Personally I worry more about too much insulin than too little.

@Ferndoc - I completely understand you worrying about too much rather than too little insulin and in a pinch, you do what you have to do. I'm lucky as I have a friend who was eager to learn how to look after a diabetic cat and help me out. But I have had the luxury of "training" her over the course of a few months. And I just found out one of the vet techs at my vet will look after Menace for me too so I am counting my blessings because I really thought finding sitting for her was going to be impossible. I know my regular kitty sitter (pre-diabetes) told me she won't give meds unless it's something she can mix with food.
