Maybe Lincoln is settling into this dose dancing to his own tune. Foster mom had some training this morning so foster dad is testing between meetings. Sometimes his reporting skills are a little lacking. Sounds like Lincoln stayed down instead of looking for the ceiling and maybe we can go a whole day without his favorite color!!! :)

Today is another dip day. Hopefully that won't give him reason to see red tonight.

He has been sliding for a day and a half. Interesting.

His appy is off today. Lincoln has NEVER left a morsel uneaten, he eats as fast as he can get it down. Today he didn't eat one slot out of the feeder, didn't eat a whole meal off of his plate. Tonight he turned his nose up at the fresh plate I gave him when we got done sterilizing his room. He did finally go back and eat half of it in the next hour and I put some Stella & Chewy's on it and he finished it off. I am concerned he is getting depressed from the lessened attention and not getting out of his room anymore. He also will eat anything, so blockage is always a concern with him, though most of the small soft toys have been removed since the ringworm cleanings started.

How long does the ringworm treatment last?

You treat until you get 2 negative cultures in a row. You let each culture grow for 2 weeks. We are hoping for a month. Usually you are going longer than that, a min of 6-10 weeks. His culture hasn't grown anything yet. We expected it to be growing by now so we shall see.

Bushels of vines for Lincoln. Poor little guy. Wish he could see what waits for him once all the ringworm is gone and his glucose levels settle down. Not too long, now, Lincoln. Just hang in there.

Hi Melanie and Lincoln. I haven't been following Lincoln's story until now but it sounds like he's lucky to have you for a foster mom. The ringworm situation sounds challenging. How do you sterilize *everything*?!?! His numbers look good tonight so at least the stress of going to the vet didn't make him shoot up to the moon. Can you pet him and play with him while wearing gloves? Is there a chance you could get ringworm when you handle him? Hang in there, little guy!

How do you sterilize *everything*?!?!

Luckily he hasn't been running all over my house and has been mainly confined to his foster room! We've removed the carpeted cat trees, the cardboard scratchers, and anything else that would hold hair and can't hold up to sterilizing. Then while he is still in his crate after getting dipped at the shelter, we scrub down the room and everything in it with soapy water, then spray it with bru-clean (a product with bleach like cleaning qualities, but safer for pets and people). We let that set 10min and then wipe down the surfaces. All new bedding, dishes, etc are put into his room afterwards. It takes some time, but its a protocol developed at the shelter when we had ringworm there that worked well (that's when I started volunteering there, a lot of cleaning help needed). I also sterilize the hallway outside his room and the bathroom just cover anything tracked outside the room. At the shelter we had bleach pans outside the room we stepped in before going in and out of "hot" rooms, but I have a cat that will roll in bleach and lick it so that doesn't work here.

Depending on the strain of ringworm, it is definitely transferable to humans. Some strains are not as human transferrable, but any strain it might be we can transfer to our cats by carrying spores out of the room. I don't wear gloves, but I wear a sweatshirt whenever I am in the room, wrap him in a blanket when I have him in my lap to test, and we go to the bathroom across the hall and wash up immediately after being with him every time.

Tonight he is super snuggly with his low numbers. Could be a long night. He likes the karanda tower we put in to give him some furniture.

That sounds like a lot of work but obviously we do these things to keep our kitties safe and healthy. And he rewarded you with good numbers last night! :cat:
