Back again...tonight noticed she was eating fresh litter from the box...she just had blood work done about 12 days ago. She has never eaten litter before. Her numbers were around 207 tonight and did not give insulin. Has anyone heard of this before?

Oh my! I don't have any experience with this but the first thing that comes to mind is maybe a vitamin/mineral deficiency or pica. I'm sure some of the older members will have more insight. Do you have a copy of the blood work results? There might be something that isn't part of a normal blood panel that could be tested for.

What kind of litter are you using? I think I have heard of some cats eating corn cob litter and swheat scoop. If you are using clumping litter it could potentially cause an issue if she eats enough of it.

I've seen mention of cats eating litter on Tanya's Site (CKD info and support).

I just did a quick web search and found this article:

http://www.absorbentproductsltd.com/why-does-my-cat-eat-kitty-litter.html

It suggests checking for anaemia and kidney function; or it might be curiosity. Is the litter new to Patches? The article also advises removing clumping litter if that's the offending litter type.

Mogs

That is the thing...just had bloodwork...no anemia but...did the convenia or the Vetsulin make her anemic? I sure as heck hope not...and the litter is clay. Non scented

To the best of my knowledge - which isn't great, mind you! - neither Convenia or Vetsulin should make her anemic. Just out of curiosity, why did she get a Convenia shot?

Memphis, who is now diabetic (hopefully temporarily), started eating clay litter a few years ago. After a battery of tests to rule out this and that to account for his severe anemia, the vet decided he had immune mediated hemolytic anemia. Sometimes there is no obvious cause, but sometimes it results after vaccinations and the immune system goes into overdrive and attacks the red blood cells. We put him on prednisolone, and no further vaccinations. He was fine until we had to change to dexamethasone (pred is periodically unavailable), and up his dosage for what maybe was an erroneous drop in red cell count. The upped dosage of steroid triggered the rise in blood sugar. We are trying to reduce his steroid (and maybe get him off of it), make sure he eats a low carb canned diet, and hope his sugar goes back to normal.

Okay...looks like it's a clay litter. So yes, what others mentioned above may be possibilities. Litter can be made out of so many things these days.
