Yesterday's beautiful blues

Looking at last night's PM cycle, I think Ivana really likes this dose! She spent the entire cycle flat in the blues, so proud of her :cat:

Today's AMPS was barely in the yellow, so I'm just going to count it as blue to make me feel better :cat: Judging from that +2 though we're going to have to keep an eye on her today.
 
It's been a while since I'd had to encourage a surf - should I give her a small amount of LC, or MC (given that it's early in the cycle)?
 
Ivana is dropping fairly quickly this morning, not sure if that's what has made her feel icky enough to bring up her breakfast at +3.5. Her +3.5 test was quite a bit lower than +3, so I gave her second breakfast of 1/2 pouch MC food (15c) to fill her tummy again and help slow the drop.
 
This is something that's new - Ivana was in the litter tray at the time of her +3 test, so I waited outside the room to ambush her for a test. When I noticed the vomit, she went into the litter tray again. Just now, she went in the litter tray yet again, for the third time in less than an hour. I watched her. She looked like she was trying to poop, but nothing, and she left. I don't know if she actually did anything the other two times. What could this mean, and what should we do?
 
+4 and she's 52 / 2.9. Barely a drop from +3.5, but considering she ate 1/4 pouch of MC food I expected her to rise a little. Will see if I can get her to eat the rest.
 
Do you think she is constipated?
I would clear out the LB so you can know for sure next time she visits it, what is going on.
Is she trying to poop or wee, can you see. Sometimes Sheba seems to have trouble peeing for a few hours. The vet said she is unlikely to be blocked because she is female and just to give her extra fliuds. It always resolves itself within a couple of hours.

I think the most important thing at the moment is to make sure she is eating and keeping it down.
 
And she's just had another non-eventful visit to the litter tray, I think she must be constipated. I'm pretty sure we have some cat laxative here, will give her some.

She's also eaten a bit more of the MC food, almost the full 1/2 pouch I gave her.
 
Laxapet given just now. When I went to find her to give it to her, she was laying down in the litter tray, never seen her do that before. We changed the litter yesterday afternoon and there were some poops in there since then, so if it's constipation now, then we've caught it early at least.

Boiled mashed pumpkin is also good for both constipation and diarrhoea. Just pumpkin, nothing else. I use it all the time.
My other cat Max used to vomit after visiting the litter box with a poop at times.
 
We don't have any pumpkin at the moment so the Laxapet will have to do for now. Will pick some up this afternoon when I'm out. If she doesn't need it by then, we'll have pumpkin soup for dinner :-)

It is always good to have some cooked mashed pumpkin in the freezer for occasions like this. Put in an ice block tray to freeze.

I have never heard if this...maybe others know.
 
Yes I will keep some frozen pumpkin from now on for sure. She's only ever been constipated once before in her life, and that was because we bought her the wrong food and she was intolerant to it (when she had dry food, she could only eat the grain-free, and we occidentally bought her the normal).

I guess it being timed with this morning's drop might just be a coincidence - poor girl, she must be feeling pretty yuck :-(
 
Yes, I would do that. You don't want her going any lower.

I think Sheba and Ivana got together when you came down here and Sheba told her some of the tricks of the trade because she does the big drops ( like they have rocks in their pockets) just like Sheba. I will have to tell Sheba not to lead her astray any more.
 
I'm wondering if I should just abort this cycle and let her eat all the HC she wants - she's already feeling awful because of her tummy, she doesn't need the low on top of that.
 
Yes I was thinking that too Amy, we'll see how she fares after the honey and HC, because of course she does this on a Sunday when our vet isn't open :banghead:

The only thing about that idea is that the HC might be too rich for her tummy right now, so too much of it could cause an adverse reaction. But yes, she does need to come up!! I'd work to get her numbers up with smaller increments of food and/or syrup, so as to not overwhelm her tummy.
 
Try rubbing a little syrup on her gums. You don't want to give any more HC or syrup than you have to because it could cause her to vomit again.
 
I gave her some honey and 2t of HC food not long ago, she ate it all, didn't gulp it down which is good. Hopefully she can keep it down. She's still drinking thankfully.

Ok so if it's the vomitting that caused the low, does this still count as earning a reduction? Ie. What should we do tonight? Or should we figure that out closer to the time?

I would wait until you get closer to shot time to see how things are going before making any decisions about tonight.

I wouldn't necessarily consider this an "earned" reduction because of the circumstances. However, you'll probably have to consider a reduction to keep her safe if she's not eating/vomiting. If I were in your shoes, I'd see how the cycle plays out. The hc, syrup, and laxative may help her have a bowel movement.
 
So by what you guys have said, the constipation caused the vomiting caused the low. But what would have caused the constipation??

I'm glad she's coming up and so far food is staying down.

Unfortunately it is really hard to say what could have caused the constipation without a vetty visit and labs to possibly point you in a specific direction.
 
4.1 / 74 at +5.5. Dropped a little from +4. Gave 2t HC food. I wouldn't normally at that number, but she hasn't got much food in her tummy today and she's still slightly dropped, I'd rather err on the side of caution seeing she probably hasn't hit nadir yet. Looks like today will be a write-off in regards to getting and keeping her in normal numbers!
 
3.8 / 68 at +6, gave another 2t of HC. She's clearly not feeling herself, although is still enthusiastic about eating. No poop yet.
 
Yes thank goodness! We've reorganised our afternoon plans so that Darryn goes out after I come home from work so that she's not alone. Fingers crossed she perks up a bit, hate seeing her feeling poorly :(
