Andy 12/30 update & question

Andy has been doing well considering we were off schedule for a few days due to the holidays.

I do have a question regarding dosing. The info I got from my vet directs that if BG is 121 to 250 to repeat the previous dose. Last night, Andy was 138 pmps, low for him. We cut back his dose from 1u to .5u since he drops so fast on 1u lately. At +4.5 he was 124 but that was normal snack time and he ate that. This amps he was 491 so not sure if that was a bounce or not enough insulin but gut tells me a bounce based on his history. He still does not like low blue numbers! :) By +5, he is down to 207.

So my question is since he is still not really regulated, what should I have done last night? As usual, thanks for any feedback.

Yes, it looks like a bounce. I would be nervous shooting a 138 - 150 is my limit and only then if you can monitor. One thing I would be doing if you shoot low numbers is to stall and retest in 20 minutes without feeding, to be sure the number is rising, not still falling.

The good news is that he is getting good numbers on a low dose.

Thanks Sue. I just don't have a good feel for where his numbers are going yet. He is doing much better, not bouncing so much and not as ravenous. We were changing his schedule this last week and now he is back to his normal schedule so plan to curve shortly. Remember we started at 6u and now around 1u - he may be an angel now if we had not adopted him when we did. :arghh:
