he ate about 2 hours ago and I was supposed to give insulin at 8:51 but was in the shower

Hi Sherri! I agree with Sue, I think a small dose would be good. That way, he doesn't get off track from not having a shot tonight. :)

gave 1,5 unit.

I upset my vet friend today, she thinks I am testing to much. She supports everything, just thinks Im doing to much testing. said I need to wait the 2 weeks before a curve. I didnt mean to do a curve today, just once I saw that low number...
he was so hungery, kept following me everywhere, poor baby sounds like he is coming threw the floor with his back legs. I know the people under me can hear him. i just hope that gets better once he is under control

I think you made the right decision i.e. a reduced dose. Because he has gone way low several times here lately, he may be super sensitive to insulin so reducing your dose is a good thing, again following very low numbers. Giving 1 unit would have been good to. Skittles may give you a high number tomorrow am, but you can't risk another too low of a cycle.

As Cindi says, since you had some lower numbers today, Skittles might be more sensitive to the insulin. I think the lower dose was good...if it turns out that it was too low, that's okay. It's better to be a little conservative after a low day I think. :)

I agree there is no hurry to do a curve (yours today was imperative because of the low number) but I would always get that pre shot number and a number around nadir. I think vets think we overthink the numbers if we test too often. I think all info is good info, but understand with some patients, testing all the time could be stressful for cat and bean. But this is not your first rodeo and you know what is best.

What do you think about reducing the dose? Maybe down to 2? As the food kicks in, his body seems to adjusting downward (which is great) but it is hard to know how much less to give. Much easier to go a little lower and make your way back up as needed?

Sorry, Sherri. On the IPhone half the time and can't see spreadsheets as well. Maybe stick with the 1.5 for awhile or even one if he throws a lower preshot?

Saw your question about nadir. It is supposed to be +5-7 for ProZinc, but as with everything else, ECID.

He is looking good!

here are skittles numbers today

AMPS= 197 gave 1.5 units

he ate about 45 mins ago
+5.5 = 79

need to leave in about 30 mins

Can you get another test in before you leave? That's a good drop just want to see if that's the lowest point. :)

Yes, going to test again before I leave. hoping this wont be the third time he drops to low!

if anything he should keep going up right? i am starting to think he food doesnt have a enough carbs for his system he is eating Frisikies Turkey & gibets dinner pate ( I dont see this on the ffod list)

Yep, he'll probably keep heading up.

I don't think that the carbs are too low. The cycle so far today has been absolutely beautiful. Remember, you are aiming for low numbers. If you get low numbers that are TOO low...it means the insulin is too much, not the food is too little carbs.

Sherri, that was a truly great cycle today. I mean...wow! Looks like he stayed under the renal threshold and had a lovely smile curve.

You could shoot 1.5 again, which would (supposedly) give you roughly the same cycle as today. That's honestly what I would do if he was mine...he didn't get too low, and it kept him in nice numbers at PMPS. BUT...I would strongly recommend getting a test in at +3 or 4 tonight to just make sure he isn't going low. I don't think he will, but a before bed test would help you see where he is going at night.

As always, you hold the syringe.

What are you thinking?

You're safe to shoot at that number. You can feed him. 192 is close enough to 200 I wouldn't worry.

If you feel good at 1.5, so do I! :)

I got food thats on the list, but I got 2 different brands....walmart brand and friskies. They have 2 big cans since Im feeding 2 cats

I've never tried WalMart brand...is that one on the list?

Friskies is what I fed for years. We recently switched to Authority but only because I needed something with less phosphorus.

yeah, its called Special kitty. I have a question about about Frisikies for ya, is that brands sauce sations 10 carb or under? ( Turkey & Giblets Dinner in homestyle Sauce)

You can mix 100 brands as long as they are all considered low carb, Sheri. The Special Kitty from Walmart, as long as it is the pate style, is fine.

Nice numbers today!

What a great number you got last night too! I'm loving it!

I don't think the sauce sations variety is under 10%...classic pate is.

As for mixing, when we switched brands, it took me roughly a month as I had to mix more and more of the new with less and the less of the old over a very long period of time. My cats didn't like the new and the only way I could get them to eat it was mixing. :)

I always knew that the can food would be better, even if they have no health problems ( they have low thirst drive, can has more H2O) But I didnt expect skittles to respond to the can so good and soooo fast! If things had been different and I wasnt packing then moving I wouldve started him off like this. I dont think he would have ever been at 5 units. But can you imagine if I had started this when I was in the middle of packing & running all around and not had the time to do spot test? I think he wouldve been bbbaaaadddd!
He cant jump on the couch all the time, but the times he does make it up it because of me.If he had his claws to dig in her would be fine. I wont do it again, but all my cats are declawed. I wasnt going to do the boys ( AKA Skittles & Feisty , we call them the boys for short ) After talking to my then boss, we decided it would be best for the "boys" to get done to since my other older two had been done. And if they ever got in a fight it wouldnt be right for one to have claws and not the other....
