I am wondering if anyone has had issues with alpha track reading? I just checked my boy and for kicks thought I would just double check as I have not done a double for a while… it was crazy!
I got 235-281-266-303-301 (in that order) The last one was a drop of blood on the wood floor. I
took out my other alpha track meter and got 276 and 278 which is much closer than the first meter.
But what the??????
With the first meter I did just get new strips but I did all the things I am supposed to --the test strip read within the range.
I changed the code--I did a test strip-it has new batteries…..
This is concerning as I could give too much insulin --I dosed for 250-275 (even at 235 he would be ok) I didn't want to give too much but this is frustrating!! I recently bought yet another alpha track as a "spare" but I don't understand how the readings could be so different. Has this happened to anyone else? I think the first meter is going in the trash! Maybe I should call abbot?

Maybe post on Health to see if anyone else is having problems? You'll get more eyes there...I never used an AT so I can't help much.

Yes, calling Abbot might restore your confidence.

I would note though, that all of the numbers you listed fall within the 20% margin of error that meters are supposed to have. If the "real BG" were 260, for instance, +/- 20% gives you a range of 208 to 312 if I did the math right in my head.

You might ask Abbot what the margin of error is on an AT meter?

As Carl stated with the allowable variance the numbers all fall within the "same" range. Also make sure that your meters are coded to the number listed on the strip container.

Are both meters AlphaTrak 2s?
Or is one the AlphaTrak (original) and the other an AlphaTrak 2?

I'm asking because the new strips can be used in the "older" meter, but one has to use Code 7 for all species for the older/original AlphaTrak meter.

they are both alpha track 2--and both coded as per the strips and did the "test" on both-both have brand new batteries as well….
I guess if they fall within the margin of error (I should have done the math oops) abbot may not do anything but I think I will contact them and see what they say. I just tested and thinking he was higher as he did not drop as he usually does at +4
Better safe than sorry, just frustrating as I have hopes of remission by keeping him in a more normal range.
thank you for all the feed back :))

Can we get you started using our grid to record your glucose tests? It will help us give you better feedback. Instructions are here.

Understanding the spreadsheet/grid:

The colored headings at the top are the ranges of glucose values. They are color-coded to clue you in as to meaning.

Each day is 1 row. Each column stores different data for the day.

From left to right, you enter
the Date in the first column
the AMPS (morning, pre-shot, test) in the 2nd column
the Units given (turquoise column)

Then, there are 11 columns labeled +1 through +11
If you test at +5 (5 hours after the shot), you enter the test number in the +5 column
If you test at +7 (7 hours after the shot), you enter the test number in the +7 column
and so on.

Halfway across the page is the column for PMPS (evening, pre-shot, test)
To the right is another turquoise column for Units given at the evening shot.

There is second set of columns labeled +1 through +11
If you snag a before bed test at +3, you enter the test number in the +3 column.

We separate day and night numbers like that because many cats go lower at night.

The nadir is the lowest glucose between shots. There is a general period when it will happen which is specific to the insulin being used and testing then helps make sure your cat doesn't go too low.

It is merely a grid for storing the info; no math required.

Hi,
I have a ss and it is linked to my information page on the left you can click on it… I am going to have my friend help me get it in the right place next week. I am not sure how it ended up in the left side--I think Carl was able to see it so it should be there… I will get it in the right place asap. My ss is a charted a little different as I dose 2-3X a day depending on his numbers and if I will be home. So if I shot at +9 I start to add from that dose-
For instance if I shot 1 unit at +9 I have arrows >>> to where I have 1 unit-when I test at what says +2 it will really be +5 as I gave at +9 (I have it noted as to the hours)
I keep a personal log as well with behavior-attitude--appetite--playful--etc…..
Thank you for all your insight ;) I read lots of other posts and learn so much!

All,
If you click on Jayla's avatar, the ss link is there on the profile and information tabs.

(Putting the SS link and all of the sig information there instead of having signatures was once discussed as becoming the "norm" for everyone when we switched to this software, FWIW. Much more stuff can fit there instead of cramming everything into 3 lines in a signature.)
