My kitty is on pzi, her numbers are bouncing around

I had a hunch...
Like Sue said, those are U100 syringes. To be clear, are you using a compounded form of "PZI" or "Prozinc"?
Can you look at the label on the insulin vial or box and see if it says U40 or U100?

I had a hunch too. That's why i asked which syringes she was using last night when she mentioned shooting 1.75. SO if vet started her on 4U...how much in fact was she actually using? OY!
I know nothing of u40- U-100 conversions....but SO glad we got Luanne over here!!!! Thank goodness she started testing when she did, and that this was caught sooner than later!!
 
If she is using U100 syringes, with a U40 insulin, then the actual dosage would be less than we thought. 4 units in a U100 syringe would be 1.6u of a U40 insulin. If I did the math right... anyone got a chart handy?

Well thank goodness it's not the other way around. So basically since she had dropped down to '2U' and then 1.75U since...kitty is practically only needing microdoses already since these translate much lower.

@Luanne Cigic ..did the vet give you those syringes to use with the Prozinc?

Yes, assuming the insulin is U40 and not U100. There is a form of compounded PZI that comes in U100 strength. That's why I asked her to check the vial, just to be sure.
I REALLY hope the vet didn't mismatch the insulin and syringes.

Yes, the vet gave me the syringes to use and told me to make sure I take one with me when I buy more to match them up. Are we ok here? Smokey is very agitated today for some reason, she attacked my other cat which she was doing before she got sick. She is aggressive tonight which is very odd for her! She's such a sweetie. I just took her sugar again, she is at 184, so shot or no shot?
 
My Sister helped me to get the SS where I hope you can get it Sue. I hoped you can get it or we messed up somehow. :?
 
Whew!!! Now it's just back to the dose having been too high. But at least we have matching and correct syringes!!! So no conversion for this type insulin required and the dose is the dose? I am a lost sheep in Prozinc/PZI land.

But numbers I know, so yes anxious to hear how her day went BG-wise (and otherwise). Eating better and no throwing up?

Ok working on getting this SS right. Her numberss were 267 at 10am, 250 at 5pm, 184 at 8;30pm. she is agitated today and eating ok. no vomiting up that I seen.
 
Are you giving her treats each time you test? She may just need some extra snuggles to offset all the poking and prodding. Plus her little body is still getting used to insulin. You could probably use some extra snuggles yourself!! :bighug::bighug:

Let the others chime in on dose.....since we don't use this insulin better to let those who do advise.
If you don't get a quick response you can change your subject line to reflect you have a dose question. Just click on your FIRST post in this thread, then click edit to edit subject line. But you have lots of people following you so pretty sure you'll get a reply soon anyway.

It looks like her numbers have been going lower rather than rising as you get closer to shot time. In that case, I would say it might be a good idea to stall until her numbers come up (without food). Or think about skipping or just giving a small dose. See what others think?

What time was her shot supposed to happen? When was the last time she ate?
 
So it looks like, on your spreadsheet, that he was 184 at +10. Did he eat then? When is +12? It looks like he may be high enough to shoot. How much are you thinking?

She ate at 8:30 1/2 can ff, 10pm 1/2 ff and i didnt give her a shot lastnight since her numbers were184 this morning she ate at 7am 1/2 can ff her sugar was 264 at 11:30 am this morning and i just fed her 1/2 can of turkey ans kiblits
 
I think I'd reduce the dose to one unit and see how that works. My thinking is that he was about the same place yesterday for amps and two units got you a evening number too low to shoot. Second, 24 hours since his last shot and he is still in the mid 200s.
 
Ok, I did just give her the 1 3/4 but I was thinking the same thing you just said, but I didn't want to lower the dosage without seeing what you thought first. Thank you! I don't know how she does it but she is curling her ears up at test time. Lol, little stinker! I'm trying to think of a better way to test her, that's she's not so stressed out because I think that ups her numbers! I hold her, show her the treats, give her one and as soon as she eats it she's fussing to get down.
 
I had our test spot up on the counter in the kitchen. Folded up a cotton blanket, and had the supplies next to that. At that level you can wrap one arm around them to keep still and sort of hunch over them with the upper part of your body which gives you more control. Plus it blocks nearly all exits. After awhile all i had to do was unzip the zipper on the kit and Hank came running to hop up on his spot, assume the position and believe it or not purred through the whole thing. You really will hear this alot. Kitties get so used to the routine. I truly think they know you are helping them feel better. Anyway, this became Hanks throne overlooking 'the world' and often I found him hanging out or napping up there, it was his place.
So maybe try something higher up where you can stand over her and see if that might give you better position.
Also with this cotton blanket, I could use it to pivot him whichever direction I wanted, so if he got wriggly i could turn him to face away or whatever.
And I might wait to let her see the treats after the test is done else she gets fidgety.

Oh, one more possible tip... since you said she's curling her ears. When i got our rice sock out of the microwave, sometimes it was a bit too hot yet to hold on his ear...so i would take that time to stroke him and run the warmed sock all over his fur which was like going to the spa for him:joyful:..he got more relaxed and gave the sock a chance to cool just a little so it was better temp for the ear. Some people will also brush them, or other things to help relax so it's a positive and more enjoyable
