Is it time to increase Andy's pm dose?

I have been keeping Andy at 1.2u am and 1u pm for 3 days. Should I increase his pm dose now to 1.2u? My vet wanted me to start at 3u but I backed off that and am now wondering if this was the wrong thing to do. But the more I push him up, the more erratic he gets. If I show the vet his numbers, he will probably advise more insulin.
 
I think an increase is a good idea. 1.2 would be fine. He is giving you blues but they can be lower. The trouble is that you get those higher pre shots and this early in the dance, they can mean too little insulin or bounces. Time will tell. It'd be nice if they would only bounce from low greens but some cats perceive a nice blue as lower than they are used to and bounce. The ugly traditional wisdom is they bounce till they stop. i think the record is 2 years for a Lantus cat....but for most it's a few weeks or months.

I think 3 units would be giving you roller coasters from scary nadirs to bounces in the blacks for pre shots. I could be wrong (am several times a day.....) but that's my HO.

Thank you - just tested +4 at 163 - gave a small portion of ff chicken feast. Totally agree on the 3u but how do you convince a vet. :(
 
Do you need to tell him? Is he asking regularly? If so, I'd go with " I am incredibly scared of overdosing him and having him hypo. I want to increase slowly and carefully. You may be right that he needs 3 units but I want to get there systematically". Would that work? It's usually hard to argue with a bean who says they are scared.

My vet started us on 4 units over Christmas. By the time she got back in town, we were down to 2 and dropping steadily. I got no advice other than keep doing what you are doing.... I was lucky she was out of town so long, and willing to see when something was working.

He wants me to fax his numbers within the month on their log sheet but this only shows the amps and pmps #'s. He has been great with me so far - he's new, younger and will give you more info than you ask for. Just don't know him that well yet. I will probably add his lower #'s so he can see how far these units drop him - that is how I got him to agree that the other vet was overdosing at 6u. Thx for all the feedback!
 
Then your mission (should you decide to accept it) is to convince that nadirs are important data and bounces happen. Yes, definitely add them (maybe just send him the whole spreadsheet)
 
Yeah, I basically didn't tell my vet what I was doing. When we went in for a visit, I printed out my SS and showed it to her.When she saw it, she said clearly I knew what I was doing and to just keep it up. Sometimes, you just need to have the data to prove that you know what you are doing and go with it.
 
You can send your SS link to your vet so they can look at it. I don't think they have to join Google Docs but I could be wrong.
