My 12 year old Siamese got diagnosed almost a year ago. Long story short is that my cat hasn't eaten in three days and is lethargic. When he walks he stumbles around like he's drunk. His blood sugars are high. I forced him to eat a little through syringe and a baby spoon. I think he's dying. I have zero money for vets bills. Cannot do care credit. I live in Tacoma, WA.

I'm not experienced in ketones, but I think your only option would be a vet visit. I'll try to find someone to help you.

Thank you. I honestly am just trying to keep him comfortable at this point. If someone in my area could take him from me, I would do that if it meant he could live.

I feel terrible for you that you are in this position. Isn't there anyone you know who would help you out? Or ask the hospital if you could work off the bill somehow, helping to clean animal crates or whatever.

I called the vet and they told me to force feed him. But without money for payment they won't do any tests. I'm even willing to rehome him but no one will take him.

There is nothing that can be done at home, he is probably dehydrated. At least call the animal hospital and ask what you can do for him.

Has he been drinking at all? Call them back and ask if you can pay off the bill with doing whatever they need to be done They will see good faith in you and hopefully help your cat. It's worth a call.....

I feel so helpless for you and wish I was there to help you and your cat. Please try calling them back and ask if you can work off the bill.

Many cats with Diabetic ketoacidosis will have a sweet smelling scent to their breath. You can try to see if this is the case. However not all cats will have this, so if you absolutely cannot get your kitty to the vet you need to use a ketodiastix urine dip stick to test for ketones. If it is DKA the only solution is to get to a vet ASAP.

I know he may have it. I'm keeping him comfortable. That's all I can do. This sucks.

Care credit is a private credit option. You can at least try and see if they approve you. You can find out in minutes on there site if they approve you or not. It is worth a try if nobody lical can assist you.

There's a list of financial aid groups at this link http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/financial-help-links.131190/

Ketone strips are about $10 (or less) at WalMart, but you'll need to get a urine sample to use them

At this point, it's vital that you get food and water into your cat. Use a blender and add food and water and blend it really well so it's a slush. You can get feeding syringes from a vet or from places like PetsMart/PetCo...and some human pharmacies may have syringes that would work in an emergency (which this is)

I'd contact Diabetic Cats In Need....they might have some other ideas for you

Please do as Chris advised and get water and food ...pate style with lots of water to make a slurry...into your poor kitty. Maybe this will make a difference. If you don't have a feeding syringe have to feed small amounts by hand the same way you would pill a cat.

The only thing I can think about: call all the vet clinics in your area, some have some funds for a case like yours. Tell them that you would give up your cat if that would save it's life... maybe that is a way around your financial issues??? At least it is worth a shot!

Please, please, please try to get some food and fluids into your kitty, and go through the Yellow Pages and call every vet in your area, one of them may be willing to help. Apply for any financial help that's available, not all of them are based on your ability to repay or your past credit history. PLEASE do these things, I just can't bear the thought of your poor kitty dying because no one would help. If I was able to, I would help you. Prayers for you and your sweet baby.

Please contact them asap, your baby & you deserve a fighting chance....please feel free to contact me as my Sabrina went into dka 2xs in the past 1-1/2 years....I can give you support & insight, also a shoulder to cry on, if you need

Please, please let her know that if he's too sick to save we will pay for euthanasia or cremation so he isn't suffering.
