When Siami was first diagnosed with diabetes, I started her on Zobaline 2x a day- wanted to try to get ahead of neuropathy. X-rays today confirm she has arthritis. Her Dr was to put her on Cosequin. I told him I would need to consult with the professionals- what do y'all think ? October 29 will be 2 weeks since her last ProZinc injection. Should I continue the Zobaline? Is Cosequin safe for diabetic cat? Should I do both? Any advice is appreciated!

Just wanted to say ... you telling your vet that you needed to "consult with the professionals" was priceless!:D :bighug:P.S. Sorry about Siami's arthritis. Those meds should be a big help, though. And OTJ party time is coming right up!:cat:

The Cosequin can be a big help...but it's like any other "supplement"....they take time to see any results and some cats will respond better than others

Such a beautiful Siamese.she looks a lot like the Siamese I had when I was younger.she lived to be 19.i miss her a lot rip.is msm and glucosamine ok for diabetic cats?

I found some info on pet info reading if your cat is diabetic you need to closely monitor their BG if they are taking Cosequin - is this true?

I've never seen anything like that, but anytime you're giving any kind of supplement, you need to make sure it doesn't have any sugars in it

We monitor our cats BG so closely here (testing 3-8 times a day or more) .....if anyone had seen it effect their cats BG, we would have probably heard about it

Does she have neuropathy still? If not, I'm not sure she still needs Zobaline. But as Chris says, lots of arthritic cats on here get both without problems.

One more day until she's officially OTJ!!

I'd never heard about this either.
Here's the company's official response to a similar question someone asked them: "Cosequin has been evaluated in safety studies. In these studies, Cosequin given at twice label recommended levels for 30 days in dogs and cats had no adverse effects on blood sugar levels, nor were any clinically significant effects seen on any biochemical parameter. In a study with human diabetics who were well-controlled, no effects were noted on long-term blood glucose control or on diabetes management.Though no change in control would be expected, as with the addition of anything new to a diabetic's regimen, it is advisable to monitor closely initially. If you would like to discuss this further, please call us at (800) 925-5187 between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm eastern time Monday through Friday."

@SpecklesandMe - thank you for the information! do you give Cosequin daily 2x a day? This is what her vet recommended
@granadilla-I noticed when she would wake up from napping she would have trouble walking- limping and stretching her back legs. I carried her to her dr and X-rays showed arthritis. She did have problems before she was diagnosed with diabetes so after it was confirmed I just thought it was diabetic neuropathy so I started her on Zobaline. 2 weeks tomorrow! She is still testing in normal range! @Cat girl - Siami said thank you!!!

We were only using Cosequin a couple times a week because I never actually asked the vet about starting it. lol Maybe someone who's still using it can give more info...

I'd used both Zobaline and Cosequin together with no issues.

@Cat girl Cosequin is glucosamine with chondroitin. Are you using a different brand with MSM?
Yes I'm using a different brand.it is sold as human glucosamine chondroitin msm mix pills and I crush them up and put it in their food.i figured out how much by weight they should be getting so try to keep it about there or under that amount.

I don't know a whole lot about msm, but I think that should be okay? I guess you can try searching on it. I use it a lot myself, although I know I'm not a cat. Glucosamine (and HLA) is good for bladder inflammation issues also, but not necessarily for UTI.
