Nicky's (and mine) morning adventure

Well Nicky had an adventure this morning. I started the new bottle of ProZinc this morning. I either misdosed him or the new bottle was a lot more potent than the old bottle because he dropped fast. I had to steer him with food to bring him up. Of course he is now sky high. Through it all Nicky never had any symptoms other than being annoyed at having his ear pricked so much. I on the other hand was a nervous wreck. He was doing so good to. I am not sure what to dose him tonight since I don't know if it was the insulin, me or Nicky being Nicky. Any thoughts? I will be home to monitor.

Oh Luanne, you poor thing. Aren't you glad it wasn't during the night? It could have been the new bottle. I dosed down a bit when I opened my new bottle too, just in case. I will let the wise ones help you with the dosing tonight to see what his reduction should be. Fingers and Paws.

Hi, Luann - Wow, that was some deep drop! I'd say you probably want to drop him down a bit tonight to be on the safer side, even though he may bounce you a high PMPS #; maybe like redux to a 1.4? And I might try holding that dose for a few cycles to see if he'll even out for you (as am looking at how it nicely it went for him on that daytime cycle @ 1.4 on 10/3/15...)

Good job Luann for steering Nicky to safety. When I start a new bottle, I usually drop my doses down by 0.2u for 3-4 cycles. Typically it doesn't matter and I probably could have resumed my dose amount but you never know when you are going to get a more potent bottle.

Hi Luann - How old was your old bottle of Prozinc? I'm still on my first, and will take note of what happened to you- yes, thankfully it happened during daytime but it looks like you have been burning the midnight oil on many occasions to test - I am starting to feel like I have a newborn infant with so much sleep loss

Oh, yeah - no kidding! Last spring I was just wandering around walking into walls. Ha, I guess there's a reason why women pushing 60 (like me:rolleyes:) don't normally have newborn babies, eh?:p

@Carol C and @Robin&BB , Promise and could we get that in writing?? LOL:coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee: Where is the icon with ZzzzZzz on wings??
Wow, this is a tough crowd...:D Re: the ZzzZzz icon with wings: As in sleep flying away from you? I think we could all come up with a whole bunch of interesting icons specific to our experiences in treating our diabetic kitties!;)

Hello,

The bottle of insulin was only 3 months old. I got it on 1-Jul-2015. It was still within its expiration. That is why I am wondering if I did not accidentally give more insulin than I thought. I am also using the 100U syringes and maybe I pulled to much into the syringe. Regarding sleeping, as I have gotten older I need less sleep however, I do get up at least once during the night and I figure since I am up, I might as well test Nicky.

I will give 1.4U tonight. This weekend I was intentionally quite aggressive which his doses since I was home to monitor and he came down really nice until the fiasco this morning.

The older I get the more I need because of all the diabetic shananigans.

Yes, the sleeping flying away from us.......geez

Check out Nicky's SS for last night. Unfortunately, I was not able to monitor him early. He only ate 1 oz last night probably because he ate quite a bit earlier in the day to raise his glucose. I don't think he went low at all. I will dose him at 1.4U this morning. I will not be able to monitor this morning until later in his cycle. We shall see what happens.

Oh Nicky! Guess he wasn't feeling it last night. He might have a lower day cycle...it's possible he stayed high all night due to those lower numbers during the day. Don't lose heart! It'll be interesting to see what he does today.
