Is it possible to find any generic strips for the AlphaTrak2? I want to get some extra before I run out, but I'd rather not have to pay >$50 for them! Any suggestions?

So, do you calibrate the Alphatrak 2 with the number on the Freestyle Lite vial? Do you need to adjust it for a cat or assume some percentage off? I ran out of the AT2 strips and the vet wants to charge $100 for 50!!! When I said I'd rather buy them online, I got all these warnings about online ripoffs with products sitting in frozen warehouses and past the expiration date.

I use Freestyle Lite strips. Set the AT meter at 7 or 36 (I read that somewhere and did some testing, it works.). I get the strips online, eBay usually, around $55 for 100 including shipping.

My vet agreed to sell me just 4 strips so I could complete a glucose curve today -- he's been off insulin for 10 days and his numbers are totally in the normal range, so I'm definitely not willing to buy more AT strips. I just went to CVS pharmacy for something else and talked to someone there about the difference between wide-ranging costs of human glucose meters, and she said they are all the same, really, just that insurance covers some and not others. And they should work for cats, too, given we're just testing the amount of glucose per units of blood, right? I understand the range of normal glucose levels would be different between cats and humans, but we're measuring the same thing, aren't we? Why can't I use the human one (for $19 including 25 test strips, with refills of 50 strips at $11). That's less than buying new strips! Anyone want to buy a brand new AlphaTrak 2?

Yes, you can use a human meter, most people on here do. If you go to BJM's page, there a range reference listed to follow.

Also wondering whether it's legal or logistically possible to sell a barely used vial of Lantus?

Yes, it's legal, there's a forum on here for listing things for sale.

Update to this reply: I'm wrong, apparently it's NOT legal, you do it, but at your own risk.

Thank you! I'm new to this forum, and new to the whole world of feline diabetes and what to feed your cat! Wish I had learned what I know now ten years ago! But thankful my guy seems to be in remission! (or never had diabetes in the first place, which is my suspicion…)

Actually, re-selling insulin is not legal in the USA. Buying and selling is done at your own risk.

Please note Robert's disclaimer at the top of the Supply Closet Forum:
"Please be aware of all local laws for your own liability. FDMB provides this forum for all *legal transactions only*. The supply closet is not to be construed as a method to circumvent the prescription process of your veterinarian."

People seem to be doing it…at their own risk, I suppose? Of course the person purchasing it would have their own prescription from their own vet.

One would hope, but it's not always the case... some simply decide to purchase insulin from private parties because their vet won't give them a prescription for the kind they want.

Why would someone buy insulin if they didn't need it?
It doesn't make sense for someone to buy insulin if they don't need it.
However, one can't assume they have a prescription for the insulin being sold. As I said above, "some simply decide to purchase insulin from private parties because their vet won't give them a prescription for the kind they want."

I'm sorry -- I didn't completely read your post. Thank you for being considerate enough to re-type what you already wrote! It's probably not the best idea to be writing while I'm upset…Apologies.

Some people might have been using it themselves and can no longer use it for some reason. You can't return it so they try and sell it to get back some of what they paid. Or their pet doesn't require it anymore and they want to get rid of it. Pharmacy can not sell it without a script.
