Skin getting less stretchy around the scruff?

It seems to me that after several months of insulin shots (I vary the location around the scruff of the neck), Sketch's skin isn't as stretchy as it used to be and I starting to have trouble grabbing as much skin as I need to feel confident about my grab-and-stab. Does this sound likely?

Some folks find that some scar tissue may happen. Rotating the shot through some other locations (ex alternate shoulder areas) may help with that.

I found that I could also shoot by pulling up the skin back in the rear leg area.

A few of us were having a conversation the other day about where are the best absorption areas to give the insulin My vet told me that research showed that the scruff of the neck doesn't have as good of an absorption as over the shoulder area. Something to research. I don't give in the scruff of the neck because of being told that.

My kitty has developed a habit of tightening up his muscles when he doesn't want a shot. It takes a few minutes of snuggles and rubs to get him to loosen up those muscles; until he does, it's almost impossible to get enough skin to make a tent.

I've noticed this too the past few days but I've only been injecting Mellow for 3 weeks! He seems to be flinching more too when I stick the needle in so it could well be tight muscles. He has lost weight since diagnosis so I thought it was due to less fat in that area or as he's not drinking quite so much now I wondered if that was another reason.
The vet shaved him around the scruff and shoulder blades to make it easier for me to see the 'tent' but its definitely smaller than at first . I'll try giving him more of a massage in that area next time to relax him. I do try to change sides each shot but I'm not yet confident enough to try a different (and hairy!) part of him.

It could also be tight muscles. Last time I noticed he was twitching a lot and a few times he's reacted as if the shot hurt. That could be enough to make him nervous about it.
