Hyde is doing good, purring and eating well.

Had another frustrating voicemail from the vet concerning Jekyll. He seems really irritated that I am second guessing his diagnosis. All of this started in May at his annual check-up and he had lost weight. I posted his blood work (also on a separate tab in Hyde's spreadsheet if anyone wants to take a look) to a FIP Yahoo group and they agreed that he had the antibodies but that he probably does not have the disease. He would not have survived since May if he had FIP. :eek:

Gotta find another vet - unfortunately this practice is close to the house and very convenient but I do not want to put any more $$ in his pocket.
 
Absolutely. If you don't have confidence in your vet and others are an option, at the least for a second opinion, I'd make a switch. My guy seems to know his limitations and understands that my opinion is usually based on information I've scarfed from my own research. We can disagree, but he'll pleasantly do what I want in terms of diagnostics or referrals. I'm lucky!

I'm sorry things are so frustrating with your vet about Jekyll. I'd at least get a second opinion from another vet. That will give you a chance to check them out and see if you want to switch. :bighug:
 
So sorry about the annoying vet. Best of luck trying to find another. I'm sure you will find one that's 10 times better and things will be wonderful :)

Finding a good vet is very frustrating. I'm taking my civie to one further away (Neko's acupuncture vet) because I really like their philosophy and way of doing things and most importantly, they listen. And of course he needs to have a female vet or he gets really nervous. I hope you find someone not too far away that is good. Do any of your neighbors have recommendations? Or maybe contact some of the local cat rescue groups for suggestions? I see that Jekyll's Spec fPL was higher than normal. With his symptoms, I'd think about an ultrasound if you haven't done already. My civie also had good b/w except for the Spec fPL. What type of food is Jekyll eating?
 
I'm hoping that you can get things worked out with your vet or find another one that you are happy with. Such a difficult process.
Hyde- Please show us better numbers- We know you can do it!
 
Sigh - thought we were done with the friendly meter days. Maybe she bounced today :(

He eats the same as everybody else. 2 small meals of LC Friskies pate and has Evo Cat and Kitten to munch on all day. He gets pushed out of his wet food unless I stand over him and keep the hoovers (Hyde and Oscar) away.

Made an apt for both Jekyll and Hyde at the Internist Specialist vet on Friday 10/9. They won't be happy because it is 20 miles away - at least it will be after rush hour.
 
When I dumped Vyktor's vet - who thought it was fine not to treat his diabetes because he was old (he was only 15!) I called around all the vets within about 15km to interview them about their facilities and approach. I was very clear that I didn't want a vet that would just expect their word to be taken as gospel and that I would be involved in all the decision making for Vyktor. I found a keeper who listens and works with me rather than gives me orders that way.

I hope you can find a keeper too.
