Tucker's spreadsheet looks awful, thanks to me! He went low,low yesterday LATER than I could watch. My good tenant who cannot test, but observe and decide... Gave high carb dry, & gravy.
I returned home, 4 hrs later. He was doing okay, but in 400's.
I reduced dose from AM.
He remains high. I shoot in 1 hr & 15 mins, then I have to be gone to work for 4+ hours again.
I am completely upset with myself and need dose advice.

Don't beat yourself up. Stuff happens. You'll get him back on track.

Here's my take. 1.2 is a good dose - aggressive but gives you good numbers IF you can monitor. It gave you the 178. You reduced the dose and got some nice greens. One idea would have been to pull those greens up a little with food and leave some low carb out for him. BUT we are always working with the idea that the most important thing to do is keep him safe. So the neighbor overdid it. It's better than not having anyone watch him.

On cycles you can monitor, for pinks +, I'd try 1.2 again. For yellows, the one unit looks good. What do you think?

I know it's frustrating because life always gets in the way of treating him. But, you are doing a great job. He is gradually, safely dropping. He is on a small dose and generally in very good ranges.

Sue, THANKS. I barely have time to write this.
So frustrating. And beyond.
I am going to err on side of caution, cannot monitor until later, w no other help.
So appreciate the kind words. You have no idea
:bighug:

It is nice to have a friend to help out while also being concerned. You probably have read this before but just in case. I get an ice cube tray and fill it with cat food mixed water in it. When I leave and will be gone for the day, I drop a couple of those in Merln's bowl. It thaws just in time for his snack and it is there just in case he gets low.

Awww, Brenda ... please don't thrash yourself over this; Sue's so right - stuff just happens! You are so devoted to Tucker - that's abundantly clear to all of us here! And nobody can do everything perfectly as relates to treating our diabetic kitties - but I know how frustrated you can end up feeling when hit with a little bump in the road like this, especially when you're trying so hard. The important thing is that you love Tucker so much!:) So take a deep breath, sweetie, and let it out slowly; repeat as needed.;)
I think you need a lot of these right now, so here they are: :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Give yourself a break, Brenda. You've done SO MUCH for Tucker. This kind of thing is going to happen sometimes. As Sue said, at least you had someone watching him...better too high for a day than too low for a moment! You're doing great!

And Cindi, thank you too! I wanted to tell you that's a very good idea, because I have Others who also want fed too when Tucker does. (Of course) I leave him a 1/4 frozen puck and isolate him. Using the smaller cubes though, I could feed everyone, and not have to isolate him-he hates it. Hiding cubes around would keep them busy so Tucker could eat! Maybe? Lol.
Xo -Brenda

Oh I like the idea of hiding them around. That would give them something to do when no one is home.

Without going into too much detail, Tucker has a little "hiding spot" where he likes to put his "treasures".. a ripped up, formerly stuffed mousie, a ratty old "spongey ball", and sometimes an old hacky sack. This pile of his stuff placed in any area signifies:: HIS SPOT/KEEP OUT :nailbiting:
LOL!
So, my new brainstorm (thanks to YOU) is to put his frozen puck there, so he will be sure to get it!! ;)

Sue - Oh that is not good. Funny...but not good!
Brenda - You will have to tell us how Tucker likes that.

Oh boy. I had the full day to monitor Tucker, so he got an increase, from 1.0 fat, to 1.2.
I thought it was a bounce early on, say +3, yet I am getting lower around +8. He usually starts UP around +8!
This is crazy. I am going to chalk it up to weirdness. As we had an unexpected guest over this afternoon, maybe that's it!
Sue taught me that he takes awhile to settle into a dose, so there's that  But it may be hard for me to monitor him if he does settle in and go low.
I was so hoping he'd just surf along in GREENS all day!
Then again, perhaps this isn't gonna be "his dose" :banghead:
Feel free to comment, EVERYONE!

Hey Brenda, these cats are going to be the end of us! Bubba just did a number on me and is now off his schedule by 2 hours...... I am so lost...

Awwww Bobbie, that sucks.
It's good you reduced though. What's your no shoot #?

I can shoot at 180's if I monitor.

Don't be feeling bad Bobbie! It could be that his little pancreas is sputtering and THAT is a GOOD thing.
We just never know. I sure wish they could talk!

My no shoot is 180 also. At PMPS he was 145 for 1 hour! So, I fed him because he and the other 3 animals are starving..... so I retest in 2 hours to see if he came up so that I can shoot and he is 447! So, now I am 2 hours off my regular schedule of 6am-6 pm and I am not sure what to do about tomorrow when he wants to eat at 6 am and I can't shoot him till about 8:15......... Tucker and Bubba clearly did not read the manual....

I have trouble figuring out Bubba but, looking at Tucker's SS, looks like 1 unit was a better dose. Again, what do I know? It will be interesting to see what the wise ones think.

So far, he looks okay. Hope he moves up enough to shoot by +12. I do think he takes a while to settle into a dose. I'd give it a while - as long as he doesn't go too low.

Well all right now Tucker! Look at you with those blues overnight! I'm very interested to see his AMPS.

I think Sue is right. Looking over the past couple days, he seems to settle into a dose after a couple cycles. I think that's just how Tucker is!

Interesting night you two had, Brenda. I'd say you could stick with 1.2 (and monitor carefully)or use a bit of a sliding scale. Maybe one unit on a yellow, 1.2 on a pink? 1.2 looks like it might be too much for a night cycle?

It is always fascinating to me how 0.2 units can make such a difference!

Thank you so much Everyone!! It means alot to wake up and see your kind remarks!! Woo hoo!!!
I think I "over steered" Sue. He just gave me a 519 at +9
When I fed him last at +6/196 I gave regular low carb. I hadn't given gravy since +4 to steer him up from the 46.
Now is he bouncing? Surely it cant be the food.
I think the 1.2 is a smidge too much at night too.
I am going to stick w your formula/ sliding scale.
I can do that!

Stubborn is his middle name

Hey Brenda. Just a thought or try next time. Sometimes, if they hit a lower number (above 40) and it is just before nadir (+4), you might want to try using your low carb food to steer. For the first time you do this, you will want to test say 10 minutes afterwards to see how it affects Tucker. For the most part, I just steer with low carb food and it seems to work. If it falls below 40, then that is when I get the medium carb or even high carb food out if need be. So you might want to try that next time just to see if he responds to it. Way to go last night.

That's very good to know Cindi, thanks alot. I HATE giving kibble now. Believe me, I count each piece. He doesn't get much, cause he is super sensitive to food.
He has carbo radar too! He can tell the higher carb every time!
It's uncanny!

If he is super sensitive, then definitely, low carb may bring him up and that way you shouldn't see that much of an up swing or bounce. The key is if it is somewhat close to nadir. If it is early in the cycle, then a medium carb may have to be used. Can't wait for next time!
