Hi, all - Got home with Bat-Bat about an hour ago; she's still a little woozy, but was very happy to have a snack of FF turkey pate @ 4 (about .75 oz) to tide her over until PMPS time at 6:45p. (Looks like that food is going to stay down, too.)
Bat-Bat's very first dental cleaning (ever!) went really well. Vet said that although she had lots of plaque on her teeth, all teeth were in great shape & cleaned up beautifully - said that's pretty great, too, for a cat who's pushing 11 years. (Said there are 3 tiny teeth missing, but it's anyone's guess when that happened, and that sometimes they don't all come in when a cat's a kitten, either.)
And - hooray - no antibiotics required!
Since they already had her knocked out, they did a full blood panel + urinalysis. Her blood test results were all well within normal limits. (When she was seen @ end-Feb., she was severely anemic & had elevated liver enzymes, in addition to the UTI & high BG that confirmed she'd slipped out of remission.)
Today, the only exception was her BG: It was 201 @ 7:00 a.m.when I tested her at home. (She was NOT happy about having no breakfast!). At the vet's office @ 9:53 a.m., her BG was 180.
Won't have urinalysis results for a day or two (he sent specimen to an outside lab), but said he anticipates that's probably normal, too. Remarked again that he's astonished at how fully she's recovered, given that in February he was doubtful she'd make it another week.
So I told him (again): Without the great guidance & support of this extraordinary group of people at FDMB, I don't think we'd have come nearly so far. He smiled & said, "Yeah, she's had one phenomenal recovery; so keep on doing what you're doing!" I told him about Dr. Pierson's food chart, too: He wants that for future reference for his other diabetic cat patients (am emailing him the pdf).
We've got a happy - albeit still sleepy - kitty here, and a happy cat-mom, too. To anyone who's hesitating about getting your kitty in for a fist-time dental: Just do it, because a healthy mouth helps make for a healthier cat. (And possibly lower BG levels, too!)
P.S. (In case you hadn't already guessed, fellow members: I'm so grateful that you're all here, because we're all in this (quest for healthy kitties) together!
