another question... I know that there is a correlation between food and insulin, but do glucose levels in diabetics stabilize better with frequent small meals or a few set timed meals. How do the two impact the glucose numbers? I thought feeding Brandy a few times a day (small amounts) would help, but it seems to be RAISING her glucose levels - frustrating because I ordered her some dry Evo low carb food so that she could eat when she wants (in addition to canned) I was hoping it may lower her glucose some more / level her out.

What formula of Evo dry are you using? Squallie did okay on the Evo dry weight management formula but when I switched to the chicken and turkey Evo dry his BG shot up. I discovered that that formula is about 18% carbohydrates! I ended up giving the whole big bag to a local shelter.

I'm currently feeding her Evo wet turkey and chicken. That did not have an impact on lowering her glucose. I am waiting for the Evo cat and kitten chicken and turkey DRY to arrive today. I was told it is only about 8% carbs. In fact, I think I also read that from someone here who uses it..can't remember who. I can't really afford the Young Again zero carb because I have so many pets, but Evo was the next best (I thought)

Dry kibble is not recommended for sugar cats unless a cat absolutely refuses to eat any canned/wet food.

I find keeping CJ on frequent smaller meals keeps her BG more consistent.

You could try the frequent smaller portions for a few days and see if it still impacts BG #'s. If so, go back to twice a day and see if that lowers the BG #'s.

Some cats do better on eating twice a day. It depends on your cat.

It was the dry cat and kitten chicken that made Squallie's BG go up, I never tried the canned. Squallie had no problems with the weight management dry, tho'.

Yeah, I'm with you on the cost of the Young Again!!! I have 4 of them eating it, it goes fast and at 30$ for a 4lb bag, it's killing my budget! the cats eat better than I do, lol!

Yeah there's no way with 5 cats for me. Plus, I have my little step daughter so, gotta be SOMEWHAT realistic lol

Well, someone said the dry Evo was ok because it's only 8% carbs and I am not home all the time. I guess you're right. I will just have to continue with the trial and error thing

Yes, Evo is good. Dry food isn't recommended but if that's your best option when you're not home, then worth a try.

I will continue to keep checking her to see how these changes are going. Thank you all for your answers. I have learned a lot from this site alone. I know I still have a ways to go though lol

On a random cuteness note ;) ....last night she DEMANDED to get in the bedroom as usual, but worse than ever lol and when I let her in she proceeded to promptly climb right up on my chest and then she licked my hand. so cute. it is a pain in the butt dealing with this sometimes, but that was super cute.

It's frustrating that the good cat food has to cost so much! I have 11 cats and only 1 sugar kitty to feed in my house. Try buying low carb dry food here in Canada, that is next to impossible! So yesterday I bought a bag of food that was higher in carbs then what vegetable can have but the lowest in carbs that is available here in Canada, a 4lb. bag cost me $30 and will only last a week maybe two depending on how much food i feed the rest of my cats.

@smiley747 it's the cute things they do that make it so worth taking good care of our sugar babies :) I keep reminding myself of that when vegetable wakes me up in the middle of the night cause she is hungry.

The Evo dry is a good low carb food, a max of 8% carbs. If you're concerned with the issue of dry, a tablespoon of water mixed with the food makes kind of a "gravy" that my kitties slurp up. The canned cat foods have so much water in them that it seems my cats are ALWAYS hungry, not just the sugar baby, but all of them. Most dry foods have too many carbs, but as my vet says, if the water is available, and the cat needs it, it will drink what it needs.

CJ hasn't been hungrier since being on canned food. She's eating less than when she was unregulated. I am so glad she's off the kibble. When I am not home, I leave out some Stella & Chewy's with water added. It's a nice option many of us here feed our cats and I feed it to my civie cat, too.

Dr. Pierson has very solid points for why dry food is bad for cats: http://catinfo.org/

Yes, it is a shame. Her numbers were better on the cheapy (old product before it was changed) 9 Lives and friskies! So, we shall see what the Evo dry does.

Yes, it was you that said 8% carbs. Someone above said that EVO dry turkey and chicken is EIGHTEEN% - which is too high. Great tip on the adding water!!!! Will do!
