Rising BG?

Sam was 250 at AMPS and 257 at +2. I haven't seen him rise before. From reading around the site, I'm guessing he might just be bouncing a bit today? Although he hasn't had any dramatic highs or lows in the last couple of days. Is there anything I should do, or it's just one of those things?

As I'm assuming you feed Sam before you shoot his dose, it's really not at all uncommon for a cat to still have elevated BG 2 hours after a meal; some days he may simply digest/ metabolize his food more slowly than on other days. So my first impression would be: Yes, it's just one of those things.
Try checking him somewhere around +4 to +6 - will likely see Sam's # has dropped by then.:)

Merlin creeps up the first couple of hours too. If you check out his spreadsheet for the month of July, I regularly took a +2 test at night so you can see that the most of the time, his +2 numbers were higher than his preshot number. It just happens.

Thanks! As you can see, I'm just beginning to collect data so I'm not sure what exactly his patterns are yet. I appreciate looking at your SS.

Any thoughts on dosing? I'm wondering if I should bump it up a little since I still haven't seen a green. Or if it's best to give him a bit more time to adjust to this whole thing. I got nervous going back to work this past week and gave him smaller doses, but I'm realizing that I'm probably being overly cautious.

Is always better to err on the side of caution when you can't be around to monitor; so don't worry, you're doing fine!

I don't know what your work schedule is, but I'd recommend that if/when you decide to bump up Sam's dose a little, you do it gradually - in increment of no more than 0.25U and ONLY if you're going to be around to test during that cycle. (Maybe that would be over a weekend?)

Which syringe are you using - the u40 (which is standard issue for ProZinc) or the U10o? As you can get U100 syringes - capacity 3/10 mL(cc) - marked on the half-unit and use our conversion table for dosing, which makes it a lot easier to do small dosage adjustments with ProZinc.

Yes, I'm using the U-40. I'm thinking I'll switch when these are gone. It is hard to know when I'm adjusting his dose if I'm really being accurate. Since I teach fractions and decimals to kids all day I figure I'm not too far off, but a little more precision would be nice before I start messing with the dose! My work schedule was this past week and this coming week, but I'll be gone at least 10 hours at a stretch starting the following week. So thankful I've had some time to watch him before I really have to leave him alone all day!

I think a little increase is a good idea. He is doing well, in generally regulated numbers so his pancreas can be healing. But he has room to drop. I am with Robin - 0.25 increase on a cycle you can test.

I am really encouraged by your numbers i.e. Sam seems to take the insulin well. I haven't really seen any bouncing so I am with everyone else, I think it is time for a little boost of insulin. You have done a great job in testing recently and the collection of this past weeks data is invaluable.

Green! :DWe got green! :D:D:D Only now I'm nervous. He's 68 at +3.5 I don't have a lot of data on him, but so far it seems that his nadir is pretty early in the cycle, so odds are that he won't drop much lower than this...but it's my first green, so I'm nervous. Also, his biggest drop so far has been about 150, and most of his drops are less than that. So he's okay and we just get to celebrate, right? o_O

Oh boy...yeah! Definitely this green is worth celebrating. Maybe this might be his nadir but you never know. Let's make sure that he is not going to drop much lower. I probably would take another test at +4 or no later than +4.5.

Poor baby. I was really hoping not to stick him again tonight. Okay, off to do my vampire imitation...

Back in the blue zone. So excited we saw green tonight! So now should I hold off on the dose increase? I was going to give him a teeny bit more juice tomorrow, but now I'm wondering if I should just hold the course. Or maybe just see what his AMPS indicates? If I don't increase tomorrow I'll need to wait until next weekend. Oh this is a complicated little dance!

Darn so sorry but it is for the best. Just want to make sure that he is still doing well since this is the first time of seeing green. You will sleep better and so will I! :D

Sam's already asleep again. And now we can get some sleep, too! Thanks for the help tonight!

This is such great news. Good job! So glad that you are at 109 as that dance in the green was awesome to see. He may be a little more than high tomorrow morning since he went lower than usual tonight. But we have not seen him bounce yet so who knows...it will be interesting. I would wait to see what you get tomorrow but may want to stay with 1u if he is close to the low 200's again. If he is higher than usual, you could go with your increase as long as you can monitor.

His AMPS was 215 so I kept him at 1u for this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed for another green today. I would love to see those start popping up!

Also, I need to rename this thread "Falling BG?" since we've now moved to the completely opposite topic ;). It really isn't a linear process, is it?

:DNo it is not. I love the analogy that it is a sugar dance. The cat is leading and he is the only one who hears the music. You just try to follow along.

And yes, I'd start a new thread with a new title.
