Tonight, I shot my first lower number and at + 3.25 Bubba is at 150. I'm a bit nervous cause he has another 8.75 hours to go. How often should I be testing tonight to keep him safe? I'm trying not to be neurotic.

That's only 30 points so I think he is looking good, Bobbi. He has 100 points to drop before you would have to intervene. If you are worried, maybe get a +5 and +7 to be sure he stays in good ranges.

Amazing how you want them to be in lower ranges, but it's scary when they start doing that. You know what to do if he drops below 50, right? You can bring him up with food if needed.

Thanks Sue. You are so right about that, especially at night. I know how much he has dropped from higher numbers, for instance today he went down 195 points. When the numbers are lower to start with, it is a bit scary. Yes, I will first steer him with regular wet and if I need it, I have some medium carb food.

I know exactly how you feel. It is really scary to shoot those lower numbers. The next time, you will feel more confident especially after you get more "lower shot" data. Way to be brave!

Thanks Cindi! I'm going to be doing a +5 in 15 minutes, so then maybe I can get a little sleep until the +7. This is like having a newborn baby. Fingers and Paws crossed.

Hey, Bobbie - this is exciting!!! Bubba may hit a couple of nice "greenies" tonight! (Sorry I missed you earlier; but Sue has your back!:))
I'll echo Cindi here: Way to be brave!:D

Thanks! I just tested him at +5 and he has dropped to 108. I am nervous about going to sleep and testing him in another 2 hours. Think I should test again at +6? And how much food do I give if he drops below 50?

You could leave out some food and test him when you wake up sometime tonight.

If 50, regular food and retest in 20 minutes. If still dropping, a teaspoon of gravy and retest.

It sure looks like he'll have a nice cycle with no big drops but I understand you worrying

Yes, I'd get a +6 just to be reassured. Looks like his drop is slowing down some, but you'll still want to check. I normally give Bat-Bat around 2/8 to 3/8 of her FF if I see her dropping toward the too-low zone. After you steer with food, you can test again after about 15-20 miinutes to make sure he's rising nicely. You're doing fine, Bobbie - I know it's always scary the first time you take that leap ...

And, of course - use the gravy-based stuff, as Sue recommended, for extra peace of mind. I only use the regular stuff because I've been doing this for a while now & I know how she rises on it.

I think a +6 test would be good too and I also think that you will get a good number at +6 (not too low). He is going down very nicely...steady and slow.

Lucky for me you are all jacked up on coffee. I need some but I wouldn't dare or I would never get any sleep. That is assuming I will get some tonight. I hope you ladies are right and that he will continue to go slowly. It is exciting and I am nervous. I will be honest. Even if his number at +6 which is in 30 mins from now, would be near 60, would you give a little food in lieu of the fact that he would have 6 more hours. He continued to drop today after the AM shot until +7. I assumed because he dropped so much today from a higher number that he might do that tonight.

Sorry, I meant that 93 today

Yes, I would. When I have to shoot Bat-Bat at night, when she nadirs I usually give her a little food (I always hold a little back from her daily rations for this purpose) after that, so that I can get some sleep!

I'm not sure what the "Sorry, I meant that 93 today" means.

We are in the green! 89 at +6. Thinking I could get a bit of sleep. Would NO food be in order for this number? Or should I give a 1/8 of a 3 oz can?

Thanks Cindi and Robin! It was really nice to have you gals guiding me. I reallllly appreciate it :bighug:
I gave him 2/8's of a 3 oz can of FF and he is happy happy boy. Mommy is excited and tired. I anguished over the food part tonight, as I don't want to set him back and I don't want a hypo either. Thanks again.

You did great, Bobbie!!! You & Bubba have a nice sleep - will check in with you in the morning!:bighug::cat:

Oh, she's fine. Just had barfed a couple of little hairball spots, which I found after she woke me up @ 6 am here (ugh, a half-hr. early) by rocketing through the house, bouncing off the bed repeatedly & "talking" to herself. Really cooled down here overnight; I think that made her feel extra energetic! (Ha, wish that's all it took for me ...)

Not that Brenda's Tucker (aka "Mr. Bouncy-Bounce) doesn't have her on an "interesting" ride these days, too!

I need her energy today, I am dragging.
