Wow, I'm stumped here. And your kitty MUST see a vet, Melissa, if you want her to survive.
As by morning she'll be pushing toward 48 hours without food. While I realize the expense seem unmanageable, most vets will work with you on the cost. And you do have a true emergency on your hands now. Has she peed at all; have you been able to check ketones?

Sorry if I'm sounding somewhat stern here, but what needs to be done needs to be done. And I will continue to hope & pray for her recovery.
(Please know that I realize that this is all very difficult for you.)

Please keep us posted, Melissa. We all care very much about you and your Sassy.
(I will be around tonight until about 1:00 a.m. your time, if that's helpful to you.)

I can't stick around late tonight unfortunately - work in the morning. But I do want to second what Robin said - please try and find a vet who will work with you on cost so that Sassy can get the treatment she needs. It really is less expensive in the long run to get treatment early for most conditions...something that can be manageable at home early on can turn into an extended hospital stay for a kitty if it isn't treated quickly.

I do understand the concerns over paying the vet's bill. I think many of us here have probably wondered at one time or another how we're going to afford treatment for our kitties, but there must be a vet out there who will help you. :bighug:

do you have any frozen breaded chicken ( or any chicken)
sometimes fried chicken ( take the breading off) can entice them to eat a little.

will she eat dry cat food?
bacon?
lunch meat?

the longer she goes without something in her stomach, the worse it gets....

I have boiled chicken, scrabbled an egg nothing seems to entice her at all.
I have tried to force feed her, she spit it back out and didn't even swallow what made it in her mouth.
I have to start a new job and have to be up at 530 in the morning, partly the reason for not going to the vet as well.
It is already 1130 and I should be asleep. Need to try and get some Z's, 530 comes early.
I just tested her again and she is down to 252 after a shot an hour ago, and she was at 290 then.
Hopefully all will go well and I can take her tomorrow.

Good luck with the new job Melissa. And good luck to you and Sassy with finding a vet you can go to tomorrow. Please keep us all updated when you have the chance. :bighug:

Hope things get better soon. Try plain chicken Vienna Sausages, my cats can't resist them and they work to jump start their appetite.

Melissa, just wanted to drop by before bed to wish you the best with your new job as well as check in on Sassy. I know you're in a difficult spot and hope we're helping rather than overwhelming you.

I don't know if anyone has pointed you in the direction of the list of financial help links we've put together. Perhaps you'll find some help from one of these organizations: Financial Help Links.

Hoping Sassy will begin to feel better soon!

Thinking of you and Sassy, Melissa.

Please post a short update when you can. Wishing you the very best with your new job, and I hope you'll find a friendly vet to help.

I apologise for giving the wrong advice in saying do not give insulin if not eating. Thank you both for correcting me. I knew she needed insulin for the ketones but was worried about her having it because of not eating. It is good to know what is needed.

I was wondering if it would be possible to put together a sticky on what to do if there is a situation like this again.
It would be really good to be able to direct the person to a well thought out plan of action and options. I know every situation is different......this ketone situation comes up often.....and it is often out of hours for the person and they are often strapped for money.....and who isn't??
Often there are few people on the board (especially in the evenings my time) and it is hard to find an experienced person to turn to for assistance............I'm not saying that happened this time.......just that it does happen a lot I find. And sometimes people need help there and then.
Thanks
ETA I know Jill has written a really good sticky on ketones/ketoacidosis ....not sure if it talks about giving insulin when not eating and situations like that .....but I could be wrong

Hi Melissa,

Just checking in to say I hope the first day on the new job's going OK and hoping Sassy's eating something. Will check back later to see if you've got an update.

:bighug:

I read thru this thread earlier today and have been thinking about Melissa and Sassy. So glad to hear she's going to the vet. Fingers and paws crossed for a good outcome!

Thanks so much for letting us know, Rhonda. I've been fretting about them. I'm so relieved that Melissa has managed to sort out the vet.

How's Sassy doing?

.

I don't know the answer to your question.

I am sending good and wise vet visit vines to Sassy. I hope the vet is willing to help her.

They have Sassy on oxygen right now and want to keep her overnight to monitor her and get her re-hydrated. Full blood work up and x-rays are planned.
Oh, now THAT'S better news! (Not that need being in hosp. is ever "wonderful" news for anyone with a fur-kiddo.) But am greatly relieved that Sassy is being treated by a vet! Many prayers for Sassy ...

I found an Emergency Animal Hospital of Springfield - is this the one?

1333 Wabash Avenue
Springfield, IL 62704

Thank you for keeping us updated, Rhonda. Hoping for good news for Sassy. Hope Melissa is hanging in there.

Oh gods, Melissa has to be tearing herself to shreds over this, the evil could have, should have, would have dance!

Oh gosh... Sad to hear that Sassy is so poorly, but glad she is the hospital receiving care right now.

Sending healing vibes to little miss Sassy, and a huge reassuring hug to (((Melissa))).

Eliz

Don't know if I should continue to post here, or start a new one. Sassy made it through the night, and through today. Melissa is stopping on her way home to get baby food, as Sassy still will not eat. She is very lethargic, and peed on herself during the night. She let Melissa clean her up this morning, but other than that is not very interested in moving.
