YESTERDAY'S BAD NEWS DAY:http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/posts/1455636/

I feed mostly frozen raw foods, a couple of locally manufactured ones that I have the As-Feds for, plus Natures Variety raw chicken. I also have some TC Feline special low phos premix (special formula not available in the US) that I can add to plain meat. For HC, it's currently Weruva Grandma's Chicken Soup. Still searching for slightly lower %carbs, but not all the options are available in Canada. For example, Evo no longer sells in Canada and I've only seen a subset of the Weruva products. What low phosphorus foods other than raw frozen are you feeding Neko?

Elise, how sad about your other kitties. Not much wonder you are so upset. Tons of vines and hugs to you and your boy.

You know he can probably sense your stress, so Im sending you stress be gone vines!

.

I know. I have binders. He doesn't need them yet and I'd like to be able to prevent that for as long as possible.I think the best list is Tess's.... I gave it to you yesterday and Wendy did today......
the pickin's are slim ....
you may very well need to go with a binder. @Marje and Gracie has good info about those.

I think you are having a perfectly normal reaction to news you didn't want to get. I was much the same when I found out about Sheba's CRD. It consumed me until I found out everything I could about the disease and got the food sorted. Once that was all organised I felt I was doing all I could to help her and I started to relax about it and accept that she now had 2 conditions. One that was manageable with insulin and one that was largely manageable with food changes, meds, extra fluids and monitoring. Adding cooked egg white further lowers the phos level of the food....you probably know this already. I give Sheba an egg white a day.

We are 8 months down the track with the CRD and blood work looks stable at this stage (anti
jinx).
You are having a normal mamabean reaction![]()
Thanks Bron. I'm glad you all don't think I'm over-reacting. I thought he might be stage 1 but the larger jump really got me. We now manage 4 things:high blood pressure, chronic pancreatitis, diabetes, and CKD. The diet needs are so different for diabetes and CKD. Higher carbs aren't good for lymphoma either I learned the hard way with Tiffany.
So he ate thevFriskies SD turkey happily today but there is no more to be found. I'll have to try some of the other foods. For at least the next week I can give him some and Mauri kangaroo too. The replies sending me some goat rotary which has tested lower in phosphorus too.
How domyiunmeando the egg whites and how does it lower phosphorus? I thought it was just a way to get more protein into them without adding phosphorus. Is that what you mean?
Thanks for the words of encouragement Chris, Laura, Ella, and Marje.[/QUOTE
The idea with the egg whites is to replace some of the meat with the egg white. Meat has a lot more phosphorus in it than egg white which has very little. So what I do is replace 20 grams of meat with 20 grams of egg white (Approx half an egg white) twice a day. So Sheba gets 40 grams of meat less a day which is replaced by the 1 egg white. It lowers the overall phos level of the meals. Egg white is said to be the best protein available. I boil the eggs, and mash the egg white in with the meat. If you mix the egg white with the whole meal it isn't much. Sheba eats it ok for me. You can go to one egg twice a day. I did that for a while but cut back....thought I would keep that for later when numbers are not as good. Don't give the egg yoke as it has all the phos.
Sheba also has highish BP, chronic pancreatitis, DM and CRD and on the whole we are managing fine....with the odd hiccup. So you will be fine I am sure once you have it all sorted out in your mind. If I can help in any way at all please ask me.
