Riley's numbers went back up!!!! NO!!

Not a big deal, Dana. Remember that a number is just one number. Could be he dropped lower around +5/6 or he may surf along awhile. Let's see what his numbers look like tonight.

Two other things to consider

Did he have a chance to eat some of the higher carb food this am? That raise the numbers.

Also, meters have a 20% variance. So the two numbers - pre shot and nadir are within the variance. Not so far apart.

Where are those patience pants?

I did give him friskies and it was a pate although it had some liquid in it I was wondering about that? I was giving him WD which I thought had more carbs?

Friskies pates should be fine. Let's see how the rest of the cycle looks. I still like the lower dose and holding it for awhile.

Yes, 50% from preshot would be good. But maybe he was lower earlier. Or maybe this cycle will just be a little flat. This is just not an exact science - it's a hormone

And don't forgot to look at Riley as a whole. Is he feeling better? Is he eating/peeing/pooping well?

Aha. He went back down. I would think one unit would be okay but I would be sure to get a before bed test.

I think he is continuing to go lower, probably because his body is learning to use the insulin and partly because the wet low carb is working. Very exciting, but a little precarious. You want him to have insulin but be careful with dosing as he drops.

Perfect example today of not worrying about one number.

If you are nervous about the dose tonight, you can always give .5. Better to increase as needed than give too much.

I will give 1 and check at bedtime. Thank you I was waiting for your response before I went forward with insulin. YOUR AWESOME!

I think he's going to be fine because I have to give him that antibiotic with sugar in it tonight should I do it now with his food

Hey sue Riley just ate some pumpkin he really loves it should I let him eat more or should I take it away from him because I don't want him getting major diarrhea?

Hmmm. Yeah, it sounds like Riley is doing the sugar dance to his own beat! :D As you said, patience pants. As you get more data, you'll be able to understand more of what's going on with Riley I think. Just remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint!

I've never used pumpkin, but my guess is to not give more just now. Wait and see how it affects him first so you don't end up with a mess!

It is best to start with a small amount of pure pumpkin and see how he does with that first. When I started using it I was giving 1/2 teaspoon daily and after a few days it worked great. :) Tuxie also loves the pumpkin and would eat whatever amount I gave him. I now give him about 1 teaspoons every other day and he has had no problems with constipation (ant-jinx)

I probably let him eat more than I should have of the pumpkin. It's the first time he's really wanted to eat something.

Depending on how Riley "processes" the pumpkin he may end up with loose stools. some kitties react more to the pumpkin puree than others. Once the constipation issue is dealt with Riley should feel more like eating. Just imagine how you would feel if you were all "bunged" up...not overly hungry ;)

Patience pants!

Also, see my signature link secondary monitoring Tools for some other assessments to evaluate your cat. He's more than a glucose number!
