Are there any pill pockets that are diabetic friendly?
I though that I had read somewhere that the duck and pea ones for dogs were ok.
Can anyone confirm or suggest another way to give him his pills?
I may try gel caps, have done it in the past and just chased with a syringe of water.

I use the allergy free duck and pea dog pill pockets. You don't need a whole one, just break off a piece.

He loves Gerber's ham and likes the other flavors so he laps it up right from the dish. I give him a big spoonful every morning after his gelcap. If he's feeling really sick I would either syringe it or some water. I put his miralax in it.

I trained punkin to eat the pill pockets by making little balls of them and throwing them on the floor. Eventually we could just throw the pills coated with pill pocket on the floor and he'd gobble them down. Best thing we ever did, even though it was kind of by accident.

We used the dog duck and pea ones - which stink and are huge. Just take the amount you need to encase the pill. Even if you poke it down Tennie's throat, using the pill pockets keeps the pills from sticking to your fingers and it keeps any bad taste from Tennie's tongue.

try pill pocket balls - like 1/4" or so in diameter, and see if you can get him to enjoy them. If so, you can try putting the meds in there and he may just gobble them down. This is one time with the acro hunger works in your favor!

I just had to give Tennie one of the meds now to get him on the 12hr schedule. It is a "chewable". I broke it in half and he ate it out of my hand and was looking for more! So funny!

If you do have to just put a gelcap in his mouth, coat it with butter. It won't stick to your finger that way, and it will slide right down.

If pill pockets don't work out, Petco carries a product called Pill Masker. It's a paste and you only use enough to cover the pill. My cats liked it. It does have sugar, but you are using such a tiny amount, it shouldn't be a problem.

Or you could always get a pill shooter, which is what I use.

You might want to check the carbs of the pounce treats. Seems like a lot of treats, except freeze dried meats, have too high of carbs for a diabetic cat.

The coconut oil might be a great method for you.

Does Neko eat them of do you have to place them in the back of her mouth?
Depends on the size of the pill. The benazapril is a "chewable", though she won't eat it on it's own. But if I coat it with pill pocket, down it goes. I tried doing the same with the Azodyl capsule, but it's larger and she bit into it, and the powder came out and then she was acting like she got peanut butter in her mouth. So with Azodyl, I now open the capsule and mix the powder with a little full fat greek yoghurt. She begs for that. :)

The nice thing about something oily is that it prevents a tablet from dissolving in the cat's mouth!
You can still add a thin coating of Pill Pocket or processed American cheese over that.
