Cooper has been holding steady in lovely blues and greens for several days and earned a reduction last night. Go Cooper!

I'm thinking about trying out a human meter since these AT2 strips are insanely expensive and we're testing so much now. I hate to switch right now because we are just finally getting the hang of what his numbers mean. But I thought about getting a human meter and start testing them side by side for a bit before making the switch.

What is the best human meter to get? I know I've seen the Relion brand mentioned a bunch. Relion Confirm or Relion Micro? Need it to still accept a tiny drop of blood.

And what lancing device is the best? We've been using the lancet device that came with the AT2 meter, with Freestyle 28 gauge lancets. The Relion lancets are far cheaper than those, wondering if they would fit in our device or not.

I have been using the Relion Confirm since Oren's diagnosis, so I can't really compare it to anyothers, but the strips are fairly inexpensive; 100 of them for 35$, also available in 20 and 50 count sizes. If you buy the meter, it comes w/ a lancet device, which I had very little luck with. I actually never tried it on Oren, I feel I have better control just hand sticking him. But in anycase, just testing the device it seemed like it wasn't ejecting the lancet deep enough.. The prime is about the same price for the meter, the strips are a bit less expensive, but I'd heard it's not as accurate as the Confirm or Micro, but perhaps others with direct experience on that can chime in?

and Go Cooper!

From my experience, most of the lancets fit most devices, so if the Relion fit, go with it. No need to buy a new lancing device. I use the prime and have since Shiloh's diagnosis, with no comparison to any others. Maybe others can chime in?

I've been using the Relion Mirco and like it. Although like others have said, it is the only one that I have used, so I cant compare. I get the test strips from American Diabetes wholesale- I think there is a link in the shopping pages. The relion micro uses the Arkray GlucoCard 01 test strips.(the Arkray and the Relion are the same machine). If you buy 4 boxes of 50 strips you get on free. It ends up being about $70-75 for 250 strips.

The Confirm and the Micro are both great meters that take the same tiny sample size as the AlphaTrak!

The Prime takes a little larger sample and some people have had problems with error messages (but you can't beat the price of the strips at only $9 for 50)

You can buy the meters and strips on ADW (it's one of our shopping partners - go to the shopping page and the site gets a percentage of the sale). They are quick to send the strips - free shipping over $89. And they have a 10% off sale ending today - use the code INDDAY15 to get the discount. The Arkray strips take the same size blood drop as the AlphaTrak. Check out those lancet prices on ADW too. Some people freestyle the lancets instead of using the lancing device. Chances are others don't fit the same lancing tool.

Coopers looking pretty awesome. :D

Relion Prime meter (I have gotten error messages but I figured it was operator error) and strips and Accu Chek softclix lancet pen... I test freehanded with it. Do dial on the end.
