Hello everyone,

Please share on how you are feeding your cat, do you leave food while you are at work or overnight?

Currently my cat is on high quality canned food Ziwipeak. I ensure she is fed prior to her shots but what should I be doing while I am away at work and over night? When I woke up at 2 am to check up on my cat her bowl was empty she was hungry I gave her a teaspoon of the wet food and 6:30 am she woke me up asking for food. She is slightly under weight and she is used to grazing all day. She eats little once the food is given to her and comes back to the bowl as she pleases. I am not over feeding her in accordance to what's recommended for her weight I just feed her when her bowl is empty and give her fresh food rather than one huge portion prior to her shot. She eats a lot better during the night hence the high bg levels.

Thank you for all of your recommendations!

A lot of people like to feed mini meals, in hopes of supporting the pancreas. We love our automatic feeder - the PetSafe5 available online or in PetSmart/Petco. It can feed 5 meals,at any interval you set. You can set it to close 2 hours before a pre shot test. It has a slot underneath for a chill pack. We just freeze the wet food (a silicone cupcake pan works great for this. Freeze and then pop them out and store in a Baggie in the freezer. By the time we are ready for him to eat, it has thawed.)

Do you have a carb count for your ZiwiPeak? If not, you might search on the site for ZiwiPeak. I know there are threads for Australian foods.

During the day, I feed Merlin whenever he asks for food which is about every two hours. I make sure that he does not get food two hours before his AM and PM pre-shot and after I test him, I give him food and then give him his shot all within five minutes. If I have to be gone, I make sure that he has food to eat. At night, I also make sure that he has food available to him a couple of times at night. Sometimes I just leave extra food on his plate (wet, can, low carb food) and sometimes I use my auto-feeder that Sue mentions. Freezing his food works too when I am not at home during the day or night.
