I increased Sheba's insulin to 5.5 units (increase 0.25) last night as bsl still high.
So far it has made no difference at all.

I am beginning to wonder if she is unwell. Nothing much I can put my finger on, except she is quiet.
She is still wanting to eat. Doesn't appear dehydrated. Poops OK. She did have another vomit about an hour before PMPS last night ..... ....yellowish fluid with a small clump of hair in it. She does sometimes vomit at this time before a meal....I think it is tummy acid, so I am not unduly worried about that....except to say she has vomited twice in the last two days which is unusual for her. But she is not nauseated (except just before she vomits) .........because she wants to eat straight afterwards.

Her vet doesn't work today. If she is still like this tomorrow I might take her to see him.
 
Good luck with the dosecrease. I hope it helps bring her numbers down. If she still seems off, a vetty visit might be a good idea. It would at least put your mind at rest. Sending prayers for Sheba. :bighug:
 
Since Sheba's never had a hairball before I'm guessing you don't have any handy - but I'd be trying catlax. If you do go that path don't be concerned about the ingredients in it which don't look good for diabetics, it isn't absorbed so shouldn't affect the BG.

Hmm, vomiting bile two days in a row would send up my helicopter-mom rotors and I would call the vet... but I am a huge worrywart!! GI upset could also be affecting her BG as well? :nailbiting::nailbiting: Healing vines being sent for Sheba! :bighug:
 
I feel so sorry for the poor little things when they cough and hack and barf, trying to get a hairball up. I hope it`s nothing more serious than Sheba just trying to get rid of a hairball. Vines being sent for her and for you :bighug:

I have just been out to the shops to grab a few things and while I was there I called in at the vet to get a few more losec tablets. When I was there last week the vet wanted me to try losec and carafate to see if either helped with her acid tummy. I thought the carafate didn't do much at all but the losec helped so I am going to give her a week on them to see if they help. I didn't see my vet but saw the nurse and she spoke to the other vet, who we sometimes see. So we will see if these make a difference to her vomiting and maybe help her bsl.

Ruth.....she only vomited the bile the once...the other time was clear.
Elise......I asked the vet about Pepcid last week but he wanted to try the losec. I am not keeping her permanently on the losec....so I might ask him again about the Pepcid.
Serryn......thanks for the name of the hairball stuff. I don't really think that is her problem...but I could be wrong. She has never had a hairball before but I guess there is a first time for everything.
Rhiannon.....I don't think I have ever seen a hairball. What do they look like?

When I arrived back from shopping Sheba was waiting for me and asking, or demanding really, some food. So that doesn't seem to indicate she is sick to me. I don't know ...I am puzzled.

So looks like there is some movement at last. Hopefully it won't stall.
 
I hope that Sheba is okay Bron. I know that worry as we all do who love our kitties and I hope that her glucose levels go down very soon and that if there is anything to worry about that it is minor and that it resolves very soon.

Crazy but I just gave her a drop of honey to slow her down a bit.
 
hairballs do look like poop.... but if you actually pick it up... you realize it's made of hair...(mostly) .. just shaped like a turd.
it can be slimy too because of being thrown up.
Has Sheba been grooming a lot?
you can also use things like coconut oil... butter.... and vaseline (petroleum jelly)
most of the cat products have lots of sugar in them. The cat products are often made with petroleum jelly with added sugar for taste.

SHEBA hasn't been grooming more than usual. She mostly cleans her front paws and face every time she eats, her rear end when necessary and occasionally other parts. I brush her quite a bit. She has a thick short coat but doesn't shed a lot.
 
Well what started out as a lousy AMPS has turned into a lovely green 79:D. And about time too Miss Sheba!
She had a couple of biggish drops along the way so I suppose she will bounce again (sigh). She seems OK this afternoon, hopefully it was just the high numbers making her feel a bit seedy this morning.
 
Surf Sheba surf! :D Once cats start getting used to the lower numbers, they can feel "off" when they are high.

I've used coconut oil or unsalted butter for Neko to prevent hairballs. Olive oil also works. We had one member whose cat wouldn't eat HC (I know, strange!) so she used commercial hair ball meds instead as HC.
 
I've seen hairballs that also look like vomit with some hair in the middle of it or just liquid vomit with hair in the middle of it.
 
Thanks Marilyn, Suki, Tricia, Carla and Wendy for your advice, stories and support. Sheba seems back to normal tonight (anti jinx). Hopefully will stay there. Tricia....stepping in a hairball.....yuk!
Suki....all the lizards are hibernating for the winter here so I don't think it would be that........she catches them but I have never seen her eat one.
Appetite very good tonight. She is sitting on my knee as I try and write this in front of TV and meowing constantly in my face with a very fishy breath..from the fish oil....
