Hello all,
I am going to get adaquan for Bean and I want to use a small needle.
A 29-30 gauge.
Vet said to give .20 w/ 27 gauge.
If she is to get .20 ml., what would that be in a U40?
She is using U40 converted into U100 3/10cc PZI now.
I dont mind getting the U40 syringe or use a U100 that is larger, but have NO IDEA
what I am doing.

My goal is to use smaller needle, and not have to fill the syringe too much.

thanks so much!

I use my insulin needles ... i just have to put in 25 mL.... so it's a full syringe but since it's so skinny... it goes in quick....

mine did not like the larger (tuberculin) needles at all.

Larry & Kitties,
Could you tell me if that U40 is 1cc? Going to get today. Tried to log in yesterday to ask, guess the forum was down a bit.
Thanks!

U-40 means 40 units of insulin per milliliter (mL)
Syringes, as Larry points out, come in different volumes, marked for U-40 insulins.
How many units do you need to give in a shot?

the vet said .20 ml
my mission is to pull up the least amount in a syringe with the smallest gauge needle.
i thought and wanted to verify that the u40 would require 8U to achieve this. Just trying to make sure i purchase
the correct cc.

'One unit on a u40 syringe is 0.025 ml
8 units on a U40 syringe is 0.2 ml
20 units on a U100 syringe syringe is 0.2 ml'

thanks EVERYONE

Using a U-100 syringe for the Adequan.
They are marked in hundredths of an mL, so 20 units would be 0.2 mL.
Or, ask the pharmacy for 1 mL tuberculin syringes; these are marked in tenths and hundredths of an mL.

Thanks @ohbell for asking the question. I've been wondering about this too. @BJM, just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, if Mitz's dose of Adequan is .25 mL, then I would give her 25 units on the U-100 syringe? That would be so much better then the 25 gauge tuberculin needles I've been using!

Joan

Yes..
U-100 measures 100 units per milliliter, so 20 units would be 20/100 or 0.2 of an mL.

Going to just use the U100 and do 20U. Forget about the U40.
Thanks for all the information. Will be calling the vet to let him know what syringes I am using to notate her file.
