Hi. This is Traci and (Merlin and Trinket) you know from Instagram. I've been out of the feline diabetes lifestyle for several years but I still login here from time to time. I'm just chiming in here to cheer you on. Can't believe Dino is already down to .5. That's awesome!!!!

Wow...exciting night for Dino!!

SO glad you got that test in!! I don't mean this to sound mean or anything, but now you really understand why we're so big on those mid-cycle tests!

For now, don't give insulin if he's under 150 without posting and having someone with some experience watching out for you. If Dino stays on insulin long enough, that 150 number will gradually come down, but that's only after you have a lot more data to really know how Dino responds to both food and insulin.

What's your daily schedule like? Like when do you test/feed/shoot and when do you have to leave for work? When do you get home? Is there a neighbor or friend who can drop in during the day to check on him?

Congrats on surviving your first PJ party too!! So happy that Serryn (purrdydolly and Vyktor's mum) and Tricia were online with you last night to keep Dino safe!

Make sure you restock your "hypo kit"....you should always have a few cans of "Gravy Lovers" types of food in the house just in case. Honey, Karo and syrup all work, but they also wear off quickly. The high carb foods help to get the BG up and hold it there a little better. I also keep an extra box of 50 strips in my "hypo kit" too.....Seems like we run out at the worst possible times and at 3am in the morning is no time to be dealing with a hypo kitty and run out of strips

Here is the link to last night's exciting thread, for anyone who want to go back and look at it. I like Serryn's suggestion of 0.5U as his dose. He may bounce, but try to ignore any higher numbers for at least 6 cycles. We look at the lowest numbers in the cycle (mid point) to decide if he needs his dose changed. Until you can get more mid cycle tests, I'd stick to 0.5 unit. Congratulations on the reduction.

Since you did say Dino needs to stay away from certain food due to his crystals, you can always make your own high carb food by adding a drop or two of karo/honey/syrup to his regular food to make high carb.

Just what exactly is a OTJ video?
OTJ is 'off the juice' When a kitty makes it to remission we have a party and some very creative and kinds souls make a special video to celebrate. Vyktor has one - click on the OTJ Party link in my signature to check it out.

Nice to see you this morning :) and Dino hasn't bounced off into the stratosphere as yet - good work Dino! Hope you're having a good day at work.

PJ party, that's funny. I leave for work around 7:15 and am usually home by about 6 or 6:30. Unfortunately I live too far away from work to test during the day. And, no, I have no neighbors who can check on him. Weekends are much better to get in more tests. Serryn and Tricia were awesome last night. Today I bought some higher carb food to have on hand. Thank you for the encouraging words! My name is Anita, I guess I never mentioned that.

OMG, that video is pawsome and Vyktor is so beautiful. Just want to pick him up and hug him. Love those whiskers.

Hi Anita!! Thanks for telling us. It makes it seem a little friendlier when we can call each other by name.

When you have time, you can create a profile that tells us a little about you and Dino. If you put your cursor over your username at the top right of the page, you'll see all kinds of choices. You can also add your name to your signature block. It would be helpful if you'd add your location (city & state, or country - something to let us know what time zone you're in).

Many of us whose cats have gone OTJ have links to the party in our signature block. There are a couple of members that work very hard to make those videos for us all to enjoy, and we treasure them, even if our kitty falls out of remission (like Cinco did). We all look forward to the "party" when the OTJ trial concludes successfully.

Looks like the bounce finally caught up to him!! He's probably been going up most of the day, but don't worry...what goes up, must come down!

You can also edit your user name (I think) and put something like "Anita and Dino" so we know who owns you...LOL

Adding the honey to his regular food is a great idea, thank you.

OK, I did it. I added some more things in my profile and changed my username. This is fun.

Ok there's that bounce off into the stratosphere  but as far as dosing goes you need to ignore it. We wouldnt look at increasing his dose for at least 6 cycles -that's how long the bounce can last.

Many people who can't be home to test during the day find that a timed feeder becomes their new best friend. I notice that you also have a civvie so not sure how that would work for you. It can be a great way to make sure kitty is safe while you're off at work as most cats will feed themselves if they drop into low number.

What is a civvie? Sorry I don't now that. A timed feeder. . . I'll have to think about that. I didn't know they were made for wet food. What I would be worried about is Dino breaking it. He is extremely a food maniac and the smell of the food in that feeder would trigger the animal him. He has bit into Tupperware containers and all sorts of stuff when he smells food. I have to be so aware of what I leave on the counters before leaving the house. I will look around and see if I can find a strong one. Thanks so much.

Anita-
A civvie is a non-diabetic cat.
I have 2 auto-feeders that were recommended to me from this board. None of my cats have ever been able to break it. It's in PetSmart but cheaper online. It can hold wet or dry food. It has 4-5 feeding bowls and it turns when at the programmed time. PetSmart would take it back with a receipt I think. Here is a link to see what it looks like but I'd shop around for the best price.
