I've been putting them in the sharps container, and I assume that is fine, but do I need to?
Gosh, I've never given it any thought, either, and just toss them in the kitchen waste can.Never thought about it, I just throw them in the trash.
And that's exactly how I dispose of syringes and lancets. They go into an empty dishwashing liquid bottle. When it's full, I tape the top shut and stick a label on the bottle, "SHARPS". From there, it goes in with the regular garbage. For my locality I can just place my syringes in a non-breakage container and tap it shut and put it in the trash.
I must be doing something wrong. Most of my strips also have blood on the outside. The blood on test strips has been "sucked" into the strip and not readily available to contaminate anything.
