Cooper finally had some blues yesterday!! We gave him fluids for his CKD yesterday, so that may have been the push to get him into blues. However, if you look at his SS, fluids only look like they bring the numbers down some of the time. So who knows. But as I knew he would, he bounced back up by this morning to black. Today's curve was smoother and we only hit high yellows. I will make sure to get some overnight tests in...please let my alarm clock wake me up!

So tonight was the 6th shot at 4.5. If we get some blues overnight, should we hold another cycle? Or if we stay in the yellows or pinks overnight, should we go ahead and go up to 4.75 in the AM?

Hey Millie!!

Congrats on those blue numbers for Cooper!!! Yay!!!!!

The modified TR protocol we use here states:

  • Hold the dose for 3 - 5 days (6 - 10 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are less than 200 before increasing the dose by 0.25 unit.
    • if your cat is new to numbers under 200, it is recommended to hold the dose for at least 8-10 cycles before increasing.
    • when your cat starts to see nadirs under 100, hold the dose for at least 10 cycles before increasing
It refers to "nadirs" and Cooper just dipped his toes in blue and went right back up although that is great progress. If it were me (and I could come home at lunch like you do to check him shorty after onset), I'd increase by 0.25u tomorrow morning to 4.75u unless he decides the 412 tonight is a high before a break and he comes down below 200 again either tonight or by tomorrow morning.

Others may have some opinions but you are doing a good job of educating yourself and getting to understand Cooperso it also depends on what you think and know about Cooper.:)
