Simon update: Simon finished with Clavamox for the UTI and has been taking prednisolone for his probable lymphoma for over a week now. He almost immediately started eating better and has continued to have a pretty good appetite. Still not like it was before, but I am happy with how he is doing. Many cans of food continue to be opened to find the right one for him, but that is ok. The B12 shots seem to be helping, too along with his regular dose of Pepcid, ondansetron, and cerenia and bupe. He is alert, happy and purry, and snuggly. His back legs continue to be weak and he is having more trouble going up/down stairs, so I am carrying him to help. The main difference is that he is consistently waking me up at 4:00 in the morning, crying. He will stop for a little bit and then start up again. I have tried giving him bupe later on in the evening in case he is in pain, but he still cries. He has done this before but only for a day or so. He is not crying because he is hungry -- I have his automatic feeder go off 2 times overnight to give him a little food. Any ideas?

I'm glad Simon is eatigng pretty good for you. It sounds like he's gotten into a routine with the crying. Is he begging you to pick him up and put him in bed with you or anything like that? Sending prayers.

I'm glad to hear Simon is eating better! I'm not completely sure about the crying, although I think I (very) vaguely think I remember someone saying that sometimes older kitties just do that. I think it could also be a sign of HyperT....I can't remember, has Simon's thyroid been checked? We continue to send prayers your way!

Amy is right with both points. I'm sure the T4 would have been on the last blood panel. I sure hope you don't have to add that to your list of issues.

Fortunately, the thyroid looked ok. The vet specifically wanted to look at it because of what is going on with Simon. Amy, you may be right about older kitties crying. I seem to have read somewhere that kitties can get dementia. Maybe Simon is just confused about where he is after sleeping. Carla, he does quiet down a little when I put him on the bed, but then gets back off after a little bit and starts the crying again.

Hi Georgia,
I agree that the crying may have become habit, and we all know how difficult habits are to break! I hope you will find that special distraction that will calm him during those nightly cryings. Maybe a treat, or a special toy?

Good that the clavamox is finished. I hope the other meds continue to help your boy.

When do you give him the Pepcid? Maybe he has gas, which can be pretty uncomfortable. It was recommended to me to give it at night.

I'm so glad he is eating better. I hope you figure out what is making him cry at night. I'm sure it's very upsetting for you.

Is he laying beside you when he cried?
I hear Shadow crying, but it usually means she's in the litter box.
Dementia does make them feel lost...

Do you have a kitty heating pad.... ( temperature controlled)....
maybe it is a little pain.... heat can help...
