6/2 Gus still not hungry

Are you giving anything for upset stomach, like famotidine? Whenever Sammy doesn't seem interested in food I immediately think he has an upset stomach. I give ¼ tablet of a 10 mg pill of Famotidine and within a few hours he is feeling better. Maybe that is what the Ondansetron is for, I am not sure.

Come on Gus, please eat some food, and more than a couple of nibbles.

Thank you I am going to tray famotidine (Pepcid AC) 1/4 tablet.
 
It has been a couple of days since Gus ate, right? I think I would call the vet....I know you said he was pooping a little, but he could still be constipated and not hungry due to being backed up.

He might have to have an x-ray to see if he is backed up and possible treatment after that....

When Skooter had his bout with constipation, there ended up being a dried piece blocking "the exit" and it was only after the second enema that they were able to get it out...after that he ate like a champ again......

Gus eat yesterday morning and just little late PM and overnight. Today he had 1/2 can FF that he just finished. That was less than he usually eats but he rarely eat his food in one go. I am going to wait little and offer him pumpkin pure to see if he will have BM and if he is straining.

I am beginning to observe a pattern:
Gus gets low BG he gets really hungry and we give him as much food as he wants and next day or two we have problem with stomach upset.
We also changed his food recently.

So if there is no improvement with meds for pancreatitis and constipation today trip to vet is a next step.
 
I find that Sammy also has a very sensitive stomach when changing the food around. My vet said that cats with pancreatitis should be on one type of food preferably a hypo allergenic food, but we all know that most of the hypo allergenic foods are way to high in carbs for our sugar kitties. So they best option is to try to stick with one or two food varieties. I use to feed my cats as many different classic pate foods from Friskies and Fancy Feast that I could find that were under 10% carbs (once Sammy was diagnosed). Now I stick with two flavors most of the time and only throw in another flavor if he gets tired of the two, or if he needs a bit higher carb food for a lower BG.

Hopefully you will work out the kinks with Gus's diet and he will be back on track soon.
 
With pancreatitis my vet said the number one mistake us feeding too much at one time when they start to become more interested in food. They eat too much at one time which makes them feel sick again. Small amounts often is his montra. Hope this helps.
 
Rusty often will be persuaded to eat if we hold his dish. He is not food-motivated and is a grazer. But if we let him eat at his pace and offer incentives (such as holding his dish occasionally; or giving him what is left of his dinner on the couch in the middle of the evening, so he can sit with us and watch TV!), he manages to finish all of the food we put out over the course of the day and evening. Since he has food allergies (beef and fish), we feed mostly poultry. And since he has only a few teeth, we stick to the patés. Currently I have a rotation of 4: FF Turkey & Giblets classic, Wellness Chicken, Merrick Pure Bistro Chicken paté, and Wellness Core Turkey and Duck. Usually I serve two at a time, devoting half of his dish to each. That way, if one doesn't appeal to him at that time, he can eat the other.

Thank you Ella and Ann I really appreciate your input. Grazer that is very accurate never eats everything in his bowl. He eats most when I feed him with a spoon. He also is missing teeth but he will not eat pate type foods. He liked FF flaked fish feast but recently refused it and baby food usually he will eat. We tried all foods that you mentioned and many more within 10% carbs or less of different brands and textures including raw Instinct without any luck. We switched him to Tiki Cat Ahi Tuna and since it is 0% carbs we adding pumpkin pure and alternate with baby food. It really worked well for several days until he got BG 36 and eat to much.

Today he is feeling much better and actually visited his buffet several times so I am hoping that whatever is his problem it is getting better not worse. No BM jet but if there wasn't any food yesterday so no poop either. His BG @AMPS 91 @+6.5 was 124 I hope I didn't jinx his green numbers.
 
Ella has a good point. If they are nauseous, bending down to the bowl can often makes it feel worse. An elevated bowl can help

BTW Pepcid AC only works on excess acid. If there is another cause for the nausea it doesn't help. Ondansetron is good for nausea, cerenia is best for vomiting.

Thank you. This is good information. We have two dining setups for Gus and both are elevated. I have cerenia and I the past it didn't help for his issue so we are staying with ondansetron. Crossing my fingers.
 
I hope Gus feels better soon! Billie has possible IBD and issues with constipation sometimes. I have lactulose to use as needed but sometimes 1/3 teaspoon of olive oil or 1/2 teaspoon vaseline has helped as a one time thing. Billie is now on a daily fish oil supplement (Nordic Naturals pet formula) and I think it is making a difference. I have read that slippery elm bark can also help but she hasn't wanted to try it.

Also, raw goat's milk is a new trick that has been really helpful for Billie. This is the kind we get, but Primal also makes one - http://answerspetfood.com/additional.html It's good for digestion and has been helpful to get Billie eating when her appy is off.

Thanks Deanna. This something new we haven't try. Couple days ago I give him Now slippery elm bark (1 tsp in 1 cup of water cooked for 6 minutes) and I wanted to continue with it but when he is sick I don't want to introduce to many new thinks. I wanted to try fish oil so I am going to order Nordic Naturals and will try goat's milk.

I really appreciate you sharing this information, it seems like we got good BG numbers so something else is a problem. It is very frustrating.

Whole Foods might carry it too but you can also get it online. I definitely understand not wanting to introduce too many new things while he won't eat...and at the same time wanting to try a bunch of new things to get him to eat. It's so tricky. Billie has developed food aversions to things I have tried to feed her when she isn't feeling well, but she finds the goat's milk irresistible enough that it hasn't been a problem so far (antijinx). Lunch meat oven roasted turkey and ham have also worked for her. I hope Gus feels better soon :bighug:
 
What Ann said :) Also, Primal makes a very similar product. If you have any stores that carry anything from Primal, they can order the goat's milk.
