Hi, could you have a look at Tabby's S/S for me?
I recently increased him to 3.25 and have started to see some better numbers and this morning he was blue so I slightly panicked because I was going to be out at work all day and so reduced his dose to 2.5, his PMPS was 4.2 and so again wasn't sure and gave him 2.5, he has never had a number that low before. Did I do the right thing or is there a better course of action I should have taken?
 
When you haven accumulated enough data to feel comfortable with shooting a lower than usual number, the safest course is to either reduce the dose or skip. It would have been helpful to have gotten a test last night so you knew where your kitty was heading. It also looks like you shot a 75 at PMPS. Please get a +1 and +2 test. You always want to get early tests when you're first shooting low numbers.

You might want to look at the sticky note on Shooting & Handling Low Numbers. It's useful to have handy if Tabby's numbers drop further.
 
Yes I usually always get a test before I go to bed but Tabby was being difficult and I ended up not being able to do it. Yes will test at +1 and +2, thanks
 
I see a 45 on the spreadsheet. It's time to give a tsp of high carb food, or a drop or two of syrup or honey on food. The test again in 30 minutes. Check out the Handling Low Numbers link Sienne gave you. It may be a long night.
 
Sometimes when they are breaking a bounce, they come down fast. Tabby has earned a dose reduction.:)

The 40's are safe, we just don't want him hanging out there as there is no room for error with insulin on board.

Don't forget to breathe! Keep track of how much high carb you give. It will be useful to know what works the next time this happens.

I'll hang around for that test in half an hour.

He has just tested 73, I am not sure how much insulin to give him in the morning?
 
Looks like the high carb worked for now, but it can wear off. I'd test again in 1/2 hour. Once he's in the 80's, you can go to once an hour testing. You want to test for a couple of hours after giving high carb, cause it can wear off and the numbers wobble down again.

Normally I'd say he's earned a reduction down to 3.0 units. Let's see what others say. A lot of what you were seeing today is probably from the depot of the 3.25U dose. Has anything changed in terms of food he is getting?

No nothing has changed regarding his food, only that he is eating less now that his numbers are getting a bit better, but he is still eating the same low carb wet food he has been eating for a while
 
I think i'd just reduce the dose by 0.25u, like Wendy is suggesting, down to 3.0.

It's good to see her responding so well to the insulin now.
