Michael can't decide if he likes blue or yellow. (amps 232) NDW?

Hi there! Michael here.
I kinda like blue better so maybe blue later. Need to entertain all my nice friends!:cat:
BTW, even if I can't really decide between blue or yellow, I am still content and enjoying my catnap.:cat:

He is just the cutest little boy-kitty. Even in still pictures he's just so darned expressive with his poses. Love him.

Now, Michael. Return to the blues, please.

I'm at lagoon (amps 232 +4.25 64) visiting pretty Polly & Rusty, the Lagoonmeister:D

Has anyone had trouble getting blood from the ear?
All was well up until a few days ago. Now I have to poke several times to get blood. I change the lancet regularly. (I use a 26g lancet. Anything higher does not work)
I have tried everything. Warming, different places on the ear where you are supposed to poke.
Won't let me touch his paws! Whatever I do, doesn't work:(
Suggestions/thoughts?
Thanks!

Maybe check for dehydration (see my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools)

I used to test the insides of J.D.'s ears where the hair is white, and I did the pokes about in the middle lengthwise on the outside edge. If you try to switch places, it will take awhile as usually happens, they need to build up capilaries?
I also rotated ears about every 3 to 5 days.

he may have developed scars where you've been poking. Scar tissue doesn't bleed.

You shouldn't reuse the lancet at all. When I started someone had photos of how the metal frayed with each poke and it was really disturbing. I did use the same lancet if i had to poke twice at one time, ie, if it was +3 and it took 2 pokes to get blood, but I would never keep the lancet and use it again at another test time. I think you might be saying that you're doing that - am I right?

About all you can do is try using a new lancet and a new location. We learned on punkin's left ear, scarred it, and switched to his right ear and then tested there only for the next 2+ years. Always make sure you apply pressure after poking until the bleeding has stopped. That helps avoid scarring as well.

You can put a flashlight against the inside of his ear and then looking from the outside you'll be able to see exactly where his capillaries are. Then you can aim for them.

When I first started, I read that you squeeze below the poke spot to get a sample. That rarely worked so now I squeeze kitties ears around both sides of the poke spot, that seems to help immensely.

If you absolutely must.get.blood, you can directly target the vein. Just be prepared for a possible gusher and blot quickly and firmly afterwards to reduce bruising and scabbing.

I'd also possibly wear a smock and be prepared to look like Dexter ;)

Only when the cat shakes its head. Spitzer (GA) left the bathroom looking like an abattoir when I inadvertently hit a vein and wasn't prepared.

Back to blue (pmps 121) I am the blues king:cool:
I hope this isn't the beginning of a bounce. @amps 4.25 64 now @ pmps 121.

I know it can be frustrating, Paula, but hang in there an experiment with different areas on the ear. I used to use the same lancet for a week, but I saw that picture that Julie mentioned and was horrified at what I must be doing to Cinco's ears. I'm sure he has some scarring, and that's why we don't always get blood on the first poke. We warm the ear and rub it.

121 is not necessarily a bounce - if it is, it's a pretty low one! I'm looking forward to a blue night for you, Michael, maybe with a little excursion to the lagoon?
