I know youi are alwahys saying on here "aim for the greens" but does that still apply if you are using an Alphatrak? Should I be aiming for the blues instead? I highly doubt Frankie will ever go into remission as he has been so difficult to try to regulate and been diagnosed too long, so should I aim for blues or greens, seeing as the Alphatrak uses higher values than the human meter?

The difference between an AT meter and a human meter is not that extreme -- especially at lower numbers. A 68 is the number where you would reduce Frankie's dose vs a 50 on a human meter. Going for green is just fine!

Sue, have you considered getting a 'human' meter?
Those AT test strips must be costing you an absolute fortune. (And on a human meter Frankie's higher numbers may look quite different...)

I'm too used to the Alphatrak I think. I doubt I would wrap my head around the different numbers knowing which was good or bad. At the moment, the insurance is paying for all his diabetes stuff. I have found some online places that sell the strips for when the limit is reached. The lowest I have found is £35 for 50. How does that compare with the human stuff?

Ah, it's great that you have insurance. That makes a big difference.

£35 is good for Alphatrack! When I tried Alphatrak I remember the cost being close to £1 a strip. And Bertie was averaging around 50 tests a week at that time.

I went back to my trusty old One Touch Ultra meter and can usually get 50 test strips on Ebay for £12 - £13. Or sometimes, if I buy several boxes at once it can be around £10 for 50 strips. That leaves me more money to spend on Thrive cat treats! :)
